I mainly fish the Cooper and have good success on spinning tackle. I have a few “go to” spots that are frequent producers. My question is what should I be throwing if the majority of the fish I catch are in that 2’ to 10’ depth? Most of the posts I’ve read about fly fishing talk about flats fishing and the like. I haven’t discovered any upper Cooper flats yet and have thrown shrimp patterns, clousers and poppers at the usual spots but have yet to catch my first saltwater fish on the fly. If anyone can help with fly recommendations, techniques, or any insight to help me get over the hump, I would really appreciate it. Thanks for any replies in advance.

I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing…
</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>I’ve been happy to have fishing buddies who have the same resolve as me. When I wanted to step up my fly fishing ability I said, “Fly rods only on the boat”. The response was, “agreed”.That wasn’t a permanent decision… it was just a decision to force the focus on fly fishing til I/we resolved the issues.
Don’t worry about the, “Most of the posts I’ve read about fly fishing talk about flats fishing…” That’s just trend.
Hard to beat the Clouser. It has been voted The Best Fresh (AND Saltwater) Fly Fishing Fly year after year.
You say you have no idea what you are doing but to me, it sounds like you are asking the right questions. Try a couple Fly Only trips and see if it helps.
Second the clouser. You can vary the depth they will sink by the size of the weighted eyes. I fish them similarly to a mirrolure where you give it a little action but otherwise let the current sweep it last structure and manage your line. They will hit it on the pause. Just keep trying in your productive spots and you’ll get it
