Cooper River Questions

I would like to try the stripers in the cooper up at the tailrace or near that end. They were shocking up some breeders the other day but nobody was fishing except shad. What is the basic season/strategy? ive gone after a few in marion in winter and july but wanted to try the river run if possible. topwater/fly is my favorite but i will adapt as needed. thanks for your advice.

we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control

You need to be the first up the river and get the spot that is as far up and as far to the right as possible. When they start pulling water be ready with a Super Spook on at least 15# braid. Throw as close to the rocks without crossing the “sanctuary line”. If they aren’t pulling water the best you can hope for is the grates on the right and the pipe on the left. “THE MAN” will be watching you with nocs so DO NOT cross the line. For some reason the frog patern is a good super spook. Some clear bodied w/blue and chart work well also. GL
