I hit Copahee on a whim today…. I launched about 10:00am just before the low tide. Then I paddled the same route we took Saturday. I was looking for redemption after the skunk. After hitting a few unsuccessful spots, I headed for the oyster beds on the bank just before the second ICW outlet. This was the same spot I fell in my boat and spooked the fish on Saturday trip. The action was a little slow to start with, but once the water started moving patience prevailed. I ended up catching five Reds the largest 25 inches and the smallest 17 inches and two trout. I ended up keeping a 20 incher and the two trout for dinner.
Not a bad trip. The fishing was great, but the wind and tide kicked my butt on the way back. Also to avoid the ICW on the holiday, I tried to find my way back through the tidal creeks. What a mistake; I found myself lost on several occasion because all my landmarks were flooded. It’s amazing how the tide changes the look of Copahee so drastically.
Nice fish… have to get up w/ u guys soon on the Copahee thing. I don’t know anything about it.
how do u keep your fish, cooler bag:question: just curious… going to try a cooler bag in my front hatch.
I couldn’t seem to get anything I had to work, so as a last resort I started fishing with the Redfish Magics Scot found before we launched Saturday. I was so impressed with there performance, I went to Wallymart and bought several different colors. I hope they work next time.
I’m with Bassn… I got to get up there with ya and check out the copahee… I figured it is about 35 miles from my house I hope gas prices go down soon My leave starts Friday so I plan on being up at Bushy park EARLY friday morning adn seeing what I can nab up in the creeks.
