Wow, that is awesome. Never have had the chance to really fish topwater stuff. May have to rent a room so I can get on the water really early and try it out.

Caught the big red at around 10:30-45 on a sunny day⦠with some cloud cover the bite can go on all day. These Reds hit like a ton of bricks! One fish on topwater is better than three fish caught sub-surface. My big fish today was full on tailing and he was on it so fast if I had blinked I would have missed the whole thing. He literally tore a hole in the water 4 feet across and shot so far back into the grass that I had no idea where he even was⦠It was one heck of a fight!!! We got some video of the landing and should have it up on you-tube soon⦠will put up a link ASAP. If you have a Heart condition I think you should shy away from topwater LOL! If not give it a go⦠It just cant be beat. Tight lines TD
Wow, that is good to know. I always thought you had to be on the water really early to take advantage of topwater conditions.
Thanks

Good stuff! Congratsā¦
How do you work that pop-r if you donāt mind me asking? Pop and pause or constant retrieve? Thanks
CAST⦠AFTER LURE LANDS WAIT A FEW SECONDS. THEN TWO SHORT SHARP TWITCHES. WAIT A FEW SECONDS THEN A SINGLE TWITCH. WAIT ONE SECOND AND THEN SHORT FAST TWITCHES FOR A FEW FEET⦠IF NO STRIKE JUST RIP IT BACK IN AND RECAST. HERE IS WHY IT WORKS, FISH HEARS THE LURE HIT THE WATER AND TURNS TOWARD THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF THE SOUND. THE TWO TWITCHES LOCK IT ON TARGET AND THE SECOND PAUSE GIVES THE FISH TIME TO MOVE UNDER THE LURE AND GET A VISUAL LOCK. THE SINGLE TWITCH WILL 80% OF THE TIME TRIGGER THE STRIKE! THE KEY IS ALL THIS HAS TO HAPPEN WITHIN TWO FEET OF THE COVER YOU THINK HOLDS THE FISH. YOU CANT PULL THESE FISH MORE THEN A FEW FEET FROM THE COVER THEY ARE LURKING IN. PIN POINT CASTING IS A MUST YOU HAVE GOT TO BE WITHIN 6" OF THE GRASS LINE YOU ARE FISHING ON EVERY CAST FOR THIS TO WORK. MASTER THIS TECHNIQUE AND YOUR TOPWATER NUMBERS SHOULD INCREASE BIGTIME! OH⦠AND BY THE WAY THIS INFO IS NOT FREE⦠YOU OWE ME A PIZZA. LOL!!! TIGHT LINES TD P.S TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION BOTH⦠MOST OF THE TIME BLIND CASTING BUT ALLWAYS HAVE AN EYE OUT FOR A TAIL OR A WAKE FROM A SWIMMING FISH. GOOD LUCK
Thanks for the in depth explanation. I owe you something!
I loved top water when I used to bass fish. I need to use it more in saltwater. Lack of confidence that it works is why I always put it away. Thanks again.
