We had a good turn out I would say about 15 or more. I was not able to get and mud minnows so it was all artificial’s. I caught 4 total the first one was a 15 1/4" the second one did not want his picture taken or get in the net he was about 15" also and the third one was 16". The fourth one was 22" but he was camera shy had on the board reached for my camera and two flops he was back in the water. So I get the net thing down to have it ready before I start fishing guess I will need to put a hand on the fish while getting the camera. All were caught on D.O.A. C.A.L. root beer/chartreuse curly tail on a Owner 1/8oz round head jig.

I saw a couple of small schools and 2 singles but they must have been chicks because they ignored me. Still enjoyed getting out and meeting some new folks.
Good looking crew. Thanks Dave and Louis for sharing. I’m glad a couple of you guys caught some fish. Had a great day on the water, but no fish :(. What a fun little creek to put in on. James/Quint shoot me a pm if you want to get out on the Wando. Love to join you.
Many go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.
No fish for us either. But, we really only fished for about 30 min (off the water by 11:45 to get home to catch the Ravens game). It was an interesting place to paddle. I’d like to try fishing there again in the spring.
Had a good time, great turnout for January! Got one in the yak early, one break-off and saw bunch of good size reds. No schools, just a bunch of loners cruizin around the grass line.

I am glad to here that we had a good turn out this month! I am sorry that I could not be there with everyone this time but I will see you guys in February. Please email any photos that you would like to have submitted to the facebook page or feel free to post them on the wall yourselves. ( LostatSea@KayakFishSC.com )
Start thinking of where you all would like to go next month.
We normally take a trip to the Tail Race Canal on the Cooper River each spring to target the Herring + Shad
Lots of fun to catch 5/6 herring at a time + fill the freezer with some great Red Fish bait
Never tried the Santee River before sounds great!!

For educational purposes, for the people that caught fish what was your approach? There was a lot of water out there which was a lil overwhelming for me…I had a hard time getting a grasp on what angle to work out there. Did yall work the grass line or drop live bait in the holes?
this time of year low tide is the ticket… in the skinny water you will see the schools moving. Work your lure, or in my case, fly in front of them and you’ll be on. As the water comes in fish the grass edge and into the grass and you’ll find em… saw well over a hundred fish in the grass Sunday as we poled through after the water got up… The biggest “hole” you’ll find out there may be 3 feet deep at low tide tho…
