Headed to Copahee sound to meet up with nikonjedi, cake, and lostatsea for some falling tide redfish. The hope was bright sunshine and light winds to sight fish. The wind was a little hogher than we would have liked, so spotting fish was nearly impossible.
We set up near the edge of the grass line and waited.
Cake was the first to hook up with a nice over the slot fish. Carter went next, another pig. Then nikonjedi with a fish over 30" and 14 pounds on his boga.
Then Cake, again, and again.
nikonjedi hooked up with another nice fish that came unbuttoned.
after all this action with the fishing buddies I’ve still got the skunk in the kayak with me.
Finally one of my rods goes off. I grab it, and it’s on like donkey kong. Fish relaized he was hooked and started making tracks for the NC border. Got him turned and working back toward the kayak. I can see him as he gets close and this is another fish over 30 inches. He makes one more run, this time to the weak direction of my wrist and I fold up like a wet dish towel. DANG that hurt! he wrapped around my rudder and stake out stik and cut me off.
I set back up and waited. a few minutes later I noticed one of my lines slowly start moving against the wind. Pick the rod up, feel a little weight and come tight to let the circle hook do the work. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. that’s all I heard from the drag on the new Okuma Trio 40 as this horse is off to the races. He’s pulling 8 pounds of drag like nothing. I tightened the drag and the fight is on. A five minute battle being VERY careful to keep the fish on my strong side and I boat a red as long as my leg. SERIOUSLY AS LONG AS MY LEG!!!
The tape measure was in the car, I couldn’t get to my camera, so nikonjedi has the only pic with me holding the fish. hopefully he and the others will post up pics from today. great afternoon with friends.
Every fish today
