Copahee Sound

Hey guys,

I’m looking to fish Copahee Sound tomorrow (weather permitting). This will be my first time fishing copahee and I had a few questions regarding which areas to fish. After viewing the sound from google maps, I am wondering wheather to fish more of the creeks and marsh area, the mud flats and oyster mounds more towards the center of the sound, or the grass line surrounding the sound. Which area do you recommend fishing? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks and tight lines!

this is my favorite area… I take a little tow rope and drag my yak down the creek at low tide and fish the incoming. look for the small patches of grass growing out of the oyster beds, the reds will move up into the oysters as soon as there is water over them. with the skinny water and 1000’s of oysters a topwater plug with 30lbs braid and no leader works well. if you fish with bait try the areas marked with the squares. both of the square areas hold tons of fish at dead low because its the only place that has any water over it. good luck!!!

Thanks!

I found fish way up in the grass early this morning with the 5.0 ft tide but it was hard to put a bait in front of them b/c they were hanging out in really thick areas. There wasn’t enough water to fill the shorter spartina grass flat either so had no success there. I tried fishing the weed line, the clumps of grass in the middle of sound and as the tide went down, the oyster mounds and deeper drop offs with nothing to show for it. I was expecting to see tons of fish hanging around the plentiful oyster mounds…do they usually hang out there when it gets really low or move to a different area? Any more suggestions on how to approach Copahee? Besides the lack of fish, it was still a great day to be on the water.

My favorite thing about this place is that no one ever really catches fish here. We just assume that since there is water and oysters that the fish would be there all the time. The worst time to fish here is by far the fall. Keep driving and go to paradise instead. You will have way better chances of catching fish. Ha Ha Ha.

I got a fishing pole for my wife…Greatest trade i ever made.

Haha yeah no fish in there. How did it ever get that silly name…redfishville.

I remember going out there when there may have been 8 or 10 yak anglers in all of Charleston. I’ve had 1 and 2 fish days and I’ve had 50 fish days at Copahee…

They are much more shy than they used to be. You need to be skilled at moving quietly or be very good at sitting still.

Boat drinks, Waitress I need 2 more boat drinks!
