Copahee

Got out to Copahee yesterday around 5:30 am. Caught some mudd minnows and a small blue crab for bait. Had some action on topwater but no hook ups. Had tons of hits on minnows but only received some small trout and sting rays.

Caught this 19 inch trout on a 4 inch nuclear chicken gulp shrimp on a texas rig.

Hooked up my 4 inch blue crab on a #5 hook and within 5 minutes my drag was screaming. I thought I had a good size shark but instead I ended up with this 3 to 4 foot stingray that had to weigh 30 to 40lbs. It pulled me across the sound for a bit and made several runs. I didn’t want to pull it up onto the kayak and end up like Steve Irwin.

Mudd minnows must work better than my mud minnows !

I use them on a popping cork and I do pretty well with them. It seems like you have to be flexible out there with tactics and bait. I always try to have atleast 2 types of live bait and my usual arsenal of artificial.
