Thats way too much hassle, I was hoping we could just ride around the waterway and shoot off the markers. Was going to use buckshot to make it sporty. Oh well.
Kill em all. They fly slow, so they are easy to hit. Find out if you can shoot them off of the roost with a rifle. We could fill a boat up with them in Jack’s Creek. Probably have to burn the boat when done though.
The dates are messed up. I’d gladly pop a couple while duck hunting, but I’m not making a special trip to kill a commorant. I’m way too old to get jacked up about killing trash birds. Let the duck commander wanna be’s sky bust on them, maybe that will run them off. When I fish the lake during the proposed dates, I normally fish on, around, or have to pass through the refuge. No way I’m gonna have a shotgun, or dead birds in the boat with me on the refuge. I plan on attending the training in Manning, and may shoot a few if I end up fishing the big water this spring. For those of you planning on hitting them hard, carry on, and remember to dispose of them where it doesn’t give the rest of us “waterfowlers” a black eye.
DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!
The harder you work, the luckier you’ll get.
will do!! plan on taking them to a piece of the mainland side of the lake ( miles from houses) and dig a shallow grave of dirt and leaves, and maybe hang around to shoot a coyote! and try to catch on of them Bill Dance fish!

you are doing it all wrong. They can’t fly until they dry off a bit, so use a .22 and weight till they surface. That bob and weaving little bitty head and neck is not as easy to hit as you would think. Even switching to a .12gauge can still be a little of a challenge. Or so some one told me a long time ago…
I would love to know an actual number on fingerling trout that get eaten by Cormarants each year.
You can go out on the lake in the morning and get a few with their wings all spread out. Just saw the stump they are sitting on and you can take them to the meeting just like they are mounted.
At the Santee Cooper catfish meeting they had signs up directing us to where to park. Hopefully they’ll do that again.
The next class is in Manning on January 14th, so if you don’t want to drive all the way up there, come on out tonight. The next class after the class in Manning isn’t until February 8th, after the season opens, but it will be back at the Santee Cooper headquarters again.
