Our lifetime warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product. Unfortunately, normal wear and tear (i.e., scratched lenses, broken hinges, accidental damage, misuse or other user-related problems) are not covered.

If you think you have a repair that should have been assessed as a manufacture defect, just let me know, and I can look into it with the repair team.

I think Doc’s frustration is coming from the combonation of an advertised “Virtually Indestructable” frame being broken and no repairs are to be made (outside of epoxy putty). I’m sure he didn’t lay them on the floor of his boat and do the two-step on them. That lifetime warranty seems to say, “If we don’t build it right we will fix it” but, “if they break while in use and we did build it right, we can’t help you.” Therefore, making it a temporary lifetime warranty!! I love my Costas but hope they don’t break!! Ms. Laurie, I appreciate you lending us your info and offering your help on the matter. I’m sure the rest of this board will appreciate it as well!! Thanks again!!

Yes Sir Boogie…I did not step or throw them down. I an pleased someone did reply and by no means BASHING Costa. They make nice glasses and I just wore them hard I guess…this is my reply to them so everyone can see I was polite…

Thank you for reading the post on CF…As you read I sent my pair of Harpoon Readers [175+] to be repaired but were told they were not under warranty. I did not drop them or have scratches in the lens. The frame above the nose gaurd were the lens meet cracked and the lens was about to fall out. Also the nose guards had fell out and they would not even put them in… I rely on my glasses EVERYDAY and take care of them…You can see I am a guide and have to have good glasses that is why I bought the Best…but someone in the repair line just took a quick look and blowed me off. I was not trying to fleese someone in to a new pair for free,just needed some repair. After I got them back I got some 2 part epoxy and did the best I could to patch them. It worked but not the best looking… I will try to get a pic and attach I know you cain’t tell much from pics but maybe you can see enough…I’m sure you can pull up my order number with my address. THANK YOU…

I think(and hope)CDM will do good by you, Doc…like I said, they always have taken care of me. It is good to see someone from the company in question join in on discussions like this…it shows they are trying.

I sent a pair back a looonnng time ago and $40 was all it took to get them replaced. Since then however, I’ve kept mine in good condition and have had one pair for 5 years and another for 4. Now trying to keep the GF to take care of them as I do, well that’s another story.

Glad CDM chimed in and saw some comments. I’m ready to try another brand just to see how they hold up. Esp since I don’t have a Salt Life and Costa sticker on my truck…

I wish I could agree with this. I am VERY disappointed in Costas quality and customer service. Some of the worst I’ve dealt with lately. In April I bought a pair of Jose’s for my birthday to myself. I’ve never paid so much, so I expect them to last more than a month. The rubber of the frame began separating after the first time they came in contact with sun screen on my skin. I sent them back and paid $11 for another pair. After 3 weeks without, the new ones came in. A month later, the same thing occurred. After doing research, sent them in with a letter asking for a pair without the rubber as this is a “known defect” (from their repair department). Was told today they would send me another style for $90! That’ll be a $260 pair of glasses if I was to do that! They couldn’t understand that and kept telling me “that will be 3 pairs of glasses you’ve had for that price”. Yes, there are correct that it’s 3 pairs, but they’ve only lasted me 4 months. So, I paid $11 for another of the same POS glasses to get and have fall apart next time I wear sun screen. I will never buy another pair of Costas. I do like their glass, but their customer service and frame quality have a lot to be desired (especially for the price). What happened to companies standing behind their products, especially knowing there is a “known defect”? I’ve always liked Smith’s and should have not changed something that wasn’t broken. If it wasn’t for them being trendy, I believe they would be out of business as soon as serious outdoorsmen/ women tried their product and experienced their customer no-service. Costa employee who posted before- feel free to reply or contact me personally through private message. BTW, Peter, your repair dept manager is like talking and reasoning with the IRS.

I haven’t heard of a situation where she got involved that wasn’t resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I will stand behind my comments you referenced. Heck, they even replaced a pair of Fathoms that I broke at a deep discount.

Thanks Wolakrab for the info, but I’m done talking with Costa. I think I’ve found a solution for the ones they are sending me.
