Costa Del Mar Sunglasses

I have been a big fan of these for years. Not too long ago I had the frame break and sent them to be repaired or replaced since the say they have a LIFETIME warranty…well the repair center @ Costa said they were not…HOW CAN THIS BE…??? When they have a add that says…
Virtually indestructible, these nylon frames offer the perfect blend of durability, comfort and style. (It’s always nice to look good holding a huge trophy fish.) For serious outdoor adventures, you need polarized sunglasses that will stand up to the elements. You just found them.</font id=“size3”> This can straight from a Internet ad. Not too happy about it and wonder if anyone else has had this prob. I ask someone that has a retail store that sells them and was told that the customer service ain’t what it use to be…???[:0]

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I think I’m going fishing…!!

[:0]Doc, I broke a arm off mine a couple years ago and they charged me around $35 but sent me a new pair of glasses. They said mine wern’t covered by warranty.

I’ve been through every pair of glasses out there and I’ve found that Maui Jim’s are by-far the best. I’ve sent broken frames and lenses back to them multiple times and you can get a complete rebuild for $10 bucks if they’re not under still under warranty. Highly recommended if you’re thinking of switching from costas.

I was about to say I had this issue with Maui Jims, and have stuck with $20 Sea Strikers ever since … snapped them in half and they wanted $80 to warranty them out …

Hard to beat Calcutta for $20 from Pawleys Island Outdoors

West Marine MI. I can’t afford Costas and bought glasses for 20 something $ and was given a replacement FOC (free of charge) no questions asked, once, when they proved defective. The second time, they didn’t carry that line any more and I was given an upgrade, FOC no questions asked.

This is all on the same original outlay of $. Two years, I’m on year three now. They may be a chain, but the people who work there are local. No one working there is my long time pal or anything, it’s just how they treated me. Same as they’d probably treat anyone here (I’m guessing).

I figure it would be the same if you spent more than I did (but of course do not know that for a fact). And they are a Costas dealer too, btw.

i sent a pair back to Costa for defective lens’s.The lost the glasses.if i didnt have tracking i woulda been sol. They sent me another pair but charged like $30 for s&h.I wasnt satisfied with their service at all.

I’ve sent three pairs of Costa Fathoms back…two had the rubber earpieces coming off of the temples(those were covered under warranty and repaired free of charge, one had the temple broken off(my fault), and they put the old lenses in new frames for $65. How did they break? I like my CDM and haven’t had any issues with how my situations have been handled. Give their customer service department a call and discuss…they usually are willing to work something out.

I think it may be a matter of which customer service representative you speak with. I find that if there is no customer service follow up surveys (i.e. Sprint and other companies who call and ask how the representative was) then it just depends on the mood of the person that you are talking to. I’m pretty sure if you call enough someone will have to respect the way Costas are advertised. I have had mine for over a year now and haven’t had a scratch on them nor any problem with them. I have a 12 dollar pair of Cablz attatched to them. Let me tell you, for anyone who misplaces things like me or drops stuff like me, get a pair of Cablz to go with your glasses. DOn’t get immitation ones, they don’t work from what I’m hearing. Make sure you get the black coated ones so they don’t rust!! I’m telling you they add life expectancy to a pair of glasses!!! Doc, I would just keep calling back to you got someone who wasn’t angry at the life choices they have made…I’m sure you will find someone that will help you eventually. I had a buddy who was given a pair of Costas (which had a lens out) and he sent them back. They charged him 64 dollars and sent him a new pair!! FIGHT THE MACHINE!!!

I take care of mine so I haven’t had to find out what their service is like…:sunglasses:

I’ve got 5 or 6 pairs of Costa’s but the only one’s I wear anymore are my RX Fathoms glasses and the 7-Mile I have. I’ve sent the 7 Mile back 2 times for frame issues with no problem. The RX Fathoms have been back once, no problem. Their prescription glasses suck though, heavy and odd lense shape/cut make them awkward. I did have a pair of THresher frameless that went back 6 times due to lenses cracking, once before I ever put them on, those were traded out on the 7 Miles.

I have one pair of Maui Jim’s that have never had one problem and I wear them more than the Costs’s. Heck my Costa’s tear up and I only wear them on weekends.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Yeah I figure as much…some jackwad having a bad day and spreading it around as much as possible. I had thought about dragging it out with them but shipping them back and forth would get exspensive just to get the point across … So I found a pair on E-Bay for 70 bucks and went that route. Used of course but look like new. Also found were they had 2011 NOS models for almost 1/2 price new in box !!
Forgot to add…

Calcutta all the way. had my frames break, the company mailed me 3 extra pairs and was terribly sorry. I even got a direct number if it ever happened again. GREAT customer service

That’s what I’m talking about…!!!
Customer service is what a company is founded on and many have FORGOT were they came from… They wanted me to pay $75 dollars for the frame [ that is under a “LIFETIME WARRANTY” and shipping and handling…WTH  BITE ME !!!

I thought about getting Rx type Costas but then I thought, “How will I see when I walk inside and have to take them off??” So I think I’m going to probably stick with the contacts and the Brines!!

Doc,
Costa does not cover damages done due to accidents, loss,or normal wear and tear:
https://www.costadelmar.com/perform/frames
They will repair them for much cheaper than you can buy new.
FWIW, I sent this link to someone from Costa’s customer service department…let’s see what happens when they see it.

Hey now…Thank you and everybody that chimed in…There was nothing wrong with the glasses and I did not expect a new pair for free…Just ask for what they claim…LIFETIME WARRANTY ON FRAMES… Forgot to add…after the rejected my claim,I bought a tube of epoxy and fixed them myself !!! You can see were I did it but that don’t bother me.It was just the idea that some Jackwad had his panties in a wad that day… And in case they read this…there were no visiable damage to the frame as in droping them…I have a pair of cables to hold them. Only thing I can figgure is I am in the sun EVERDAY with charters and the got brittle and cracked…It was a smooth break and anyone should have been able to see…ANYWAY…we shall see,THANK YOU!

I ran over mine with the lawnmower tire. $187+ replacement from Costa. Funny, cause this is exactly what I paid for them new on eBay to begin with.

It ain’t no mystery…this beer’s history!
