Costa Rica charters

Anyone got a good captain/boat down there for a Jan/Feb trip?

What part of CR?

I think Richard Chelemmi is one of the best there. I have fished with him a number of times. No affiliation

I’m thinking of Jaco/Los Suenos. Is there a better area to fish out of on the Pacific side…?

34’ express, American captain, Tico mate, great rates and they won the IGFA offshore championship the year before last. They had my wife hooking sails on the circle on about her 3rd try.

Be sure you book direct with whoever you decide on. It will save you some money.

The bite should be going off in Los Suenos around then.

After reading I think Quepos may be they way to go. Stay in Jaco a night and hit a few bars, then head on down to Quepos. The nicest beach in CR is close to there. We are going to have a chill day between the fishing days.

Wing Man if you want Los Suenos.

Capt. Carlos and mate Lindor are fluent in English and excellent at more than just sail catching. We caught YFT, sails, cuberas, dolphin, sea bass, trevally, etc. Chartered them for two days this past Feb.

Could have caught 100 sails if we’d wanted. We caught a few and then wanted to focus on other things. Carlos had no problem with doing the extra work…
Most other capt’s would have urged against ignoring the hot sailfish bite.

We will go back.

I’ve also fished with Capt. Carlos out of Los Suenos, had a fantastic day, 23 sails, some tuna, some wahoo and a marlin. Couldn’t have been better.

I am guessing Manuel Antonio? It is incredibly beautiful. Watch out for the monkeys on the beach, they will steal your stuff.

While you are near Manuel Antonio, grab a cold Imperial Silver and stare out at the Pacific at El Avion. It is a unique bar on a cliff made out of an old Fairchild C-123 (sister plane to the one that was shot down running guns to the Contras) and get a little CIA history as well!

Manuel Antonio park is amazing! And the monkeys will steal your stuff. And do a jungle zip line trip while you are down there.
