Fished three days out of Los Suenos. First two days were on the Wing Man with Capt. Carlos Arguedas and Lindor Jimenez. They were awesome. Picked up a lot of tricks, and it was nice for us to have these guys for two days. Mrs. Phin got this trip for me for Christmas and Valentines. We had some problems getting down there with all the ice and airline problems, but we finally made it for 4 days. We’ll be going back!
We knew the sailfish were biting good with reports of double digit catches from almost all the boats. We wanted to catch some stuff we couldn’t get here though, so we spent several hours each day going after rooster fish (and bait to catch them). We didn’t get one, but being a fisherman, I understand that’s the way it is. Carlos has put 3 or 4 in the boat in a day for people who didn’t have any appreciation for it and complained at the end of the day about not having any meat to take back. We didn’t have that problem even though we spent almost half of each day on roosters. I think next time we will do one day for only robalos (snook) and roosters.
At any rate,
day one
2 for 6 on sailfish 65-90lbs
40lb dolphin
4 yellowfin tuna 6-12lbs
10 bonitas
7 mullet snapper 15-30lbs
4 cubera snapper 8-35lbs
1 amberjack 40lbs
1 yellow snapper
day two
1 big “sea bass” on 10lb test sabiki rig
1 big jack crevalle
1 huge sea bass lost at the boat
1 big fish hook pulled - possibly a big rooster
dozen or more different species caught while making bait- margarita snapper, dog snapper, rainbow runners, blue runners, various groupers
day three
several spanish macks and bonita
2 for 3 on sailfish 80-110lbs
Mrs. Phin caught many species she had not caught before, and we had a great time. Sailfish were free jumping everywhere, and we even saw cuberas boiling on top above the reef while we fished. I hooked several right at the boat sight casting to them. Hated coming back to all the cold weather.
Great pictures, makes me want to jump on a plane I love Los Suenos, what a cool place. I’ve got some pics of those same crocs from the bridge, wouldn’t want to go swimming there [:0]

Is that a white seabass? I didn’t think they got that far south.
Cuberas look awesome. I’d like to catch and eat one of those some day.
great post! Thanks for sharing
