I just got back from Quepos CR and the same thing happened to us except it was a sailfish. My friend has a nice battle wound on his hand to show for it. It really made for an exciting afternoon to say the least.
This was the second time this has happened to me ; the first time was back in the early '90’s with about a 350# BLUE that ■■■■ near killed me and another guy.

Great pics! What type of camera?
Those were taken with my Nikon D-100 (SLR). It’s an older camera by todays standards but, certainly works fine for me. I was not looking through the view finder - just happened to hold the camera to my side with the button on “auto” … 3 clicks per second. You can see how fast the brown stuff hit the fan!
