Costa Rica Report 9-15

Just got back from Tamarindo in Costa. The surf was pretty good at Playa Avellanas and Playa Grande and the fishing was alright. We went 1 for 3 on sails, caught 7 dorado and pulled the hook on 2 big yellowfins on the first day. Second day we went 1 for 2 on blue marlin and caught 13 dorado. Both blue marlin bites were spectacular bait and switch bites right at the back of the boat. The first blue was about 350lbs and charged the boat when I hooked him. He threw the hook after a few jumps. The second blue was about 200lbs and we released him in about 10 minutes.Took some Black Bart mini 1656 lures down there and they worked really well.

Haha, i thist got back from there too, Stayed at Diria in Tamarindo.

Congrats on the fish. Do you have any pictures

Mid good work on the Blue. Good to see you on the flight. Next to you go down we have to hook up. I will get you a pass for the short cut to the River mouth and Little Hawaii.

You’ve gotta love fishing for the yellowfins down there…did yall catch em under the schools of spinner-dolphin? Nice work on the blue, I hope you kept some distance between your shotgun rod and the beetle bar.

is there a beetle bar in tamarindo now? god help them if there is. thats the first sign of a town going to ■■■■■ is when the whores move in (look at jaco). they need to keep that ■■■■■ in san jose in my opinion.

nice job on the fish. did you surf avellanas? i friggin love that wave when its on.

Good to see you to Richard. Glad that your are doing well with the polo. I will hit you up on the cell when I get back down. Playa Grande was head high for most of the week, but a little on the mushy side. Will post some pics in the photo section later this week.

I heard there is now a 2 story night club in the little cul-de-sac in Tamarindo. Sad…it was such a nice little town 10 years ago :frowning_face:

Glad to hear you got some good rides in and a few bills too boot!

well that sucks. havent been to tamarindo in a while… guess we will have to keep heading south.

Rippin and Sippin;

Great Report! Sounds like you had a pretty decent trip up in Tamarindo considering that this is the slower time of year on the Offshore bite all throughout Cost Rica.

We are still getting a few nice Sails and Marlin down here in Los Suenos as well as a lot of big Bull Mahi’s and Tuna. Our Roosterfish bite and Grouper & Snapper is outstanding now as well.

Let me know if you should ever wish to join us here in the Fishing Capital of Costa Rica - Los Suenos. We get a very strong Marlin run here that starts in Mid-November and runs through January, and right into our Peak Sailfish season from January through late May where our boats and clients release double digits daily.

Again, great report and glad you got a little dose of Pura Vida here in Costa Rica.
