Couple reds plus ScottyD

Got out this morning and found some reds. They were tailing very strong while it was flooding so I threw a crab fly… and it worked. Later, as the water thinned the fish were aggresive on the surface and I scored on a fat “muddler”. I would have sworn it was a blue fish (it ran so hard) if I hadn’t seen it for a positive I.D.

Got to chat with ScottyD as we were both pulling out of the water. Whipped out my fly box for a show-and-tell. We didn’t have one duplicate fly. And mine were bigger.

Also, neither of us had a “Mad Mike Any Kind Of Fly” in either of our fly boxes. Just having a little fun with Mike. He ties some great flies.

bigger, but not sharper! ha! yea man, good to see you again. you got me thinking about dem muddler minners, im headed to the vice in a few.
for the record, there are 2 well worn “maddest of Mikes” creations tucked in there. i called him yesterday actually to pick his twisted brain about one of em. an 8yr old girl was hammering the reds on the “vegas crab” that a.m.

Thanks for the phone call scotty… I really do love to hear about people catching fish on something that came out of my twisted noggin… Sorry I had to cut it short, but I was in the middle of loading a fly-reel… We definately need to fish more…

Tyoneon- No offense taken, in fact if you take one of my little tying clinics you will hear me say that I don’t want to teach people to tie my flies, I would rather inspire people to come up with their own… there’s really no better feeling than to watch a red, or any fish for that matter, flat out kill something that you made and came up with… its a beautiful thing… but my flies will do if your in a pinch

Couldn’t agree more. That’s why I immediately grabbed my fly box to show Scotty what kind of crazy stuff I’ve been tying. His fly box was completely different and gave me some new ideas. Once a fish takes a fly I often switch it out to see what else I can fool them with. Hope that muddler works for him today. It worked for me yesterday. They hit it like it was crack. Now what should I try???

Scotty. If you tied those 'muddlers' I hope they worked for you. They worked for me, today. Top water action in the grass.
