Karma is probably going to get me on this one, but I figured you all would enjoy some awesome pics. My buddy is visiting me here in Colorado from DC and I decided it would be a good idea to for me to not only taking him fishing on the Roaring Fork River where I guide but also try out a rumor and fish a private lake known to have some monster trout. (Note: I’ll be taking this location to my grave.) We had to trespass on state property to get to the lake, hence the karma, but I think it was worth it. The last two evenings we have snuck out to the lake with 30 minutes of daylight left and fished well into dark. These fish are RARELY ever fished for, and take streamers readily. Saturday night we caught 15 out of 20 hooked in an hour. Tonight landed 10 out of 17 hooked. Most of the fish are fat, fat brook trout averaging 14-15", smallest going 12" and the largest being 18." There were 2 brown trout mixed in, going 18" I caught last night and a 21" monster that Chilton landed on his 4 weight. All fish hooked on purple conehead estaz leggy buggers. I’m coming up with a freshwater seaducer pattern so they can find it easier in the dark.
Besides fishing for these guys in a barrel we hammered browns on the Frying Pan friday and caught a nice 16" bow on Saturday out of the Fork. Overall it’s been a fantastic summer out here guiding and I’m looking forward to coming back next spring. Will post a big fishing report from the summer with pics before I head back to VA in 2 weeks.
