PROVO, Utah — As Mindy Greene spent another day in the COVID intensive care unit, listening to the whirring machines that now breathed for her 42-year-old husband, Russ, she opened her phone and tapped out a message.
“We did not get the vaccine,” she wrote on Facebook. “I read all kinds of things about the vaccine and it scared me. So I made the decision and prayed about it and got the impression that we would be ok.”
They were not.
Her husband, the father to their four children, was now hovering between life and death, tentacles of tubes spilling from his body. The patient in the room next to her husband’s had died hours earlier. That day, July 13, Greene decided to add her voice to an unlikely group of people speaking out in the polarized national debate over vaccination: the remorseful.
“If I had the information I have today we would have gotten vaccinated,” Greene wrote. Come what may, she hit “send.”

Thanks for the back up Bob. I’ve not seen those numbers, but only 22 thousand instead of the average 40-80 thousand flu deaths is pretty peculiar.

Florida again breaks record for COVID-19 hospitalizations

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida rose to an all-time high of 11,515 patients in one day, according to data the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released Tuesday.
The data is used by the Florida Hospital Association to track admissions and staffing shortages. The figures also show 2,400 of those patients are in ICU beds.
The previous day, the data showed there were 10,389 COVID-hospitalizations in the state.
The new number breaks a previous record for current hospitalizations set more than a year ago before vaccines were available. Last year, Florida hit its previous peak on July 23, with 10,170 hospitalizations.
Hospitals around the state report having to put emergency room visitors in beds in hallways and others document a noticeable drop in the age of patients.

I’m vaccinated. Any vaccine has risks associated. As a kid, I had a severe reaction to one of the required shots. But, on balance, I decided the illness was higher risk than the vaccine.

I have taken the vaccine and respect the rights of others not to.
I can say today that University Hospital in Augusta reopened the Covid floor a week or so ago, and it is full. What I don’t know is, how many folks in there had the vaccine prior to getting it…That’s important, IMO.
Coworkers wife, sorta, is in there in rough shape. Early 40’s. Just found that out today, so don’t know if she was vaccinated. Her husband wasn’t and has it but doing OK, at this point.

In do know this, 97% of the covid deaths are non-vaccinated and more than 70% of the hospitalizations are non-vaccinated. My son is a nurse and told me the number of covid patients at the hospital he works at has gotten so bad that they will be holding covid patients in the ER now for up to 48 hours as they have no room elsewhere.
What convinced me to get the shot? A healthy friend in his late 30’s got covid. He spent 10 days in the hospital last September and to this date, has not totally recovered. He was told that he may have diminished lung capacity the rest of his life as well as some heart issues.
To each his own but, I did my research and spoke to people I trust and respect. Too many people are making decisions based on Facebook crap, political B.S. or erroneous information.

Can you show me where you got those numbers? I read a report from Israel, stating that as much as 60 percent of Covid cases, are among the double vaxxed.

The vaccines will not totally prevent infection. The assertion is that the vaccines will largely prevent serious disease and death (95+%). In fact, no vaccine really prevents infection. If you are sufficiently exposes to any virus, you will get it. The vaccine just makes your immune response to that bug faster/better, hopefully to the point that dealing with the infection is trivial, so trivial you don’t notice. The quicker/better the immune response, the more trivial the infection. (Guess it comes to how you define ‘infection’.)
It is entirely expected that as more people are vaccinated and the risk of serious disease/death decreases in that portion of the population, as a given geography returns to normal social behavior patterns, the disease will spread.
The real question is whether or not the vaccinated are truly seeing less serious disease and death. All indications are that is the case.
This does put the ‘not-vaccinated’ at higher risk. As the vaccinated can move about more freely, potentially carrying/spreading the bug, the not-vaccinated will see an increase in exposure. Among that portion of the population, we should expect to see more serious disease/death.
Aside: you can’t be ‘unvaccinated’. You’d have to be vaccinated, first. Then, somehow, have that vaccination removed. Weird, how we use the language.
