Cowpens

Can someone tell me where Cowpens is located?

I have shrimped in Bulls Bay the past several years and have heard people on the ramp mention going to Cowpens. I’d be curious if it might be a bit more sheltered than the open water?

Hope this works.

Perfect, Thanks!

it gets really shallow

“Run run run as fast as you can you cant catch me im the prodrive man!”

Poleyard,
Your sig may be more effective if it says “I was the ****!”

What is the best way to get out there from McClellanville? On the map it looks like there is a navigable creek a few miles up the ICW all the way out to Cowpen Point. Are some of the other creeks off the ICW navigable above low tide?

i was speaking to friogatto. i know it is shallow as well.

The creek you speak of is navigable. Jeremy Creek is too, but where you cross Muddy Bay can be awful if you have anything other than a skiff.

I have an 18’ Sea Pro that probably drafts about 8-10". So basically don’t take the short cut that goes through muddy bay unless the tide is up?

The charts so pretty good water depth around Cowpen Point…anything to be worried about other than getting there?

Casino Creek is good. The area to the left where it opens up into the Cowpen is very shallow at mid to low tide. That whole area on the left bank all the way to Alligator creek is “get stuck” area. Stay straight or to the right and you’ll be good. If they are there, it is good shrimping out in front of Casino Creek. I usually go through Muddy Bay to Horsehead and then towards the pier. On the other side of the pier, the channel runs through. It will drop off to ~15’ then come back up to 3’-4’ fairly quickly. I will setup near this drop off at low tide in 2’-3’ and shrimp the incoming tide. The view will look something like this: [URL=http://s95.photobucket.com/user/bowhunter1431/media/100_0314-1.jpg.html]

My poles are running left to right in this photo which is parallel to the channel. Horsehead Creek is towards the 2 o’clock position from here and Casino Creek is towards the 4 o’clock position.

Now that is good information! Great use of Google Maps Bowhunter…

Thanks Bowhunter…I’ll be out there next week!

I am sure many others as well. Thanks for all the “help”. I may be looking for a new and quieter area now.

There is PLENTY of room out there for a lot of boats. I sat there on opening day one year and counted 73 boats and I could not see the whole area. Besides, I do not have any idea if there are any shrimp there this year. You are on your own to find out. The area is no secret and if there are no shrimp, it will be as quiet as you could possibly want. My season is looking like a bust due to an accident that I suffered a couple of weeks ago that is leaving me unable to go. I still have a lot (maybe months) of recuperating ahead. Good luck and full nets to you all.
