First time yesterday for the season and it was a disappointment. Talked to two fellas coming in and they caught 5 shrimp from the morning( muddy bay). Got to my spot that usually never disappoints with almost a dead low tide. Usually when I run thru shrimp are jumping in my wash but I didn’t see one, so already a bad sign. Set the poles and nothing. There where plenty of boats out and soon enough people left. I decided to head into muddy bay and caught some deep holing and decided to put poles in again in some shallows. After it was said and done we barley managed to fill the bottom of the cooler. I think the shrimp are still out deep until all this fresh water is done flushing. Made it back to the ramp and it was empty. Sad.
Was planning to go there in the morning. Maybe it will be better by then. Can usually get some in Winyah but those are usually baby shrimps.

Well that really sucks
I am fragile.
Not like a flower.
But like a bomb.
Sorry to hear that Shrimpaholic. So it seems like it’s getting better then as in the shrimp are coming back in… It’also seems like last year as well if it’s taking 6+ hours to fill a cooler with Meds shrimp. Hopefully I can get out there later this weekend.
Monday Sept 16- The wife and I followed some friends out. We were able to tough it out for about 1/4 (mixed) on the incoming tide. While I was not going to break my leg, we did stay to watch our friends get almost a limit.
Tuesday Sept 17- We followed the same gang out at the same time as in the previous morning. We ended up with about a 1/3 and again my friends almost got their limit.
Wednesday Sept 18- We stayed in, but my friends got a limit or very close.
Thursday Sept 19- Shrimp not in the same spot as previous days.
Saturday Sept 21- Went to our normal spot in S. Bulls Bay due to lower winds. Shrimp started huge then changed to mixed. Hard going, but we ended up with a good 1/2. The boat beside us got their limit.
In summary I think Cowpens, based on my landing conversations, was the best place to be early in the week. I feel based on Saturday that Bulls Bay is coming on now.
Good luck Soggybottom
Hey there Soggybottom. How are you sir?
Went Monday and shrimped N bullsbay by the islands on an almost dead tide and incomings tide. Large shrimp but only 3-4 shrimp a cast. Moved shallow in BB and had better numbers but smalls and meds. Packed up and headed into Cowpens and shrimped a halfway incoming tide the rest of the afternoon. Mainly meds and larges but low numbers. Managed 1/3 cooler. I think the shrimp are making there way back in and as the weather gets a little cooler they’ll come in thicker and bigger. Hope this helps some folks for this weekend. I hope to make it back out next week sometime. Keep this thread going if y’all have reports thru the week. Thanks.
Hello Nova,
Finally broke down and ordered a Tim Wade while I was down last week. Can’t wait to get my hands on it. Now all we have to do is find some Shrimp.
Good luck
Soggy.
Is a Tim Wade cast-nets mono supple and soft? I use a Bait Buster right now but she’s getting old and I’ll be in the market for a new one soon. I was also looking at barracuda cast nets which have a LTD lifetime warranty. When is the next time you’re going be headed out?
Tim Wade cast nets are a night and day difference from a bait buster. They are a good quality nets, I own several of them from 8 to 12 foot. I started out with a 10 foot bait buster , that thing tangled too much for me.
Finally got settled with the insurance company and got another boat…went out to Cowpens saturday and caught a whoppin 8 shrimp. Anyone doing anything?
