I may do one out of Miami in late June on Carnival. Anybody done the W Caribbean and want to share what to do/not do that made the trip enjoyable. I’ve cruised Carnival out of Charleston but didn’t go that far down. There are tons of choices to do while at port and I want to make the best of them.
j - i’ve cruised from miami to key west then to plya del ?? then to cozumel. also gone from tampa to cozumel. both on carnival. the key west stop was dissappointing as we were only there for a few brief hours. but key west is very nice. cozumel been there twice and would not go back. carlos and charlies was extremely fun both times but didn’t like the area too much. my opinion for anyone or me next time would be Jamaica or Caymens. just my .02 worth. i’ve got the itch for another cruise also.

we did the royal carribean “Explorer of the seas” 2 years ago and it was great…cozumel, costa maya, belize, grand cayman, georgetown( did not care much for georgetown)…went scuba, snuba, catamaran dive to reefs, small isle off of belize for the day /fishing…had a blast. They really catered to us and it was money well spent…would love to do it again…
I did the W Caribbean on both Carnival and Royal Carribean " Mariner Of The Seas". I would never go on Carnival again. Carnival was not bad, but the trip was just OK. Royal Caribbean was awesome! The food and the service was incredible. It is a little more expensive, but it is worth it.
Have a wonderful and safe trip…take lots of pictures…and bring us all something back!!! I personally want a
“GOT TO FISH” tank top from Cozumel…size Large…anyone else:sunglasses:
alrgiht we will. so you want a large right pennfish?? anyone else… but thanks you pennfish. we will take alot of pictures im hoping dad will let me go fishing.

Mariner Of The Seas is a great boat. Took the family two years ago and my boys (at that time 3 and 5) had a blast.
cozumel…stay away from stores at the port mall, better deals down the street in walking distance. as far as fishing, no charters through the ship at grand caymen, cozumel has charters but, u will probably catch baracudas. Caymen is awesome, GO TO THE BEACH and the Tortuga Rum cake factory.Have fun
We’re going to on Royal Carribean in Sept. to the same places you’re asking about. How did your cruise turn out? We did the same cruise a couple of years ago but had really bad weather the whole time. All of the excursions were cancelled in Cozumel, we couldn’t even go into Grand Caymen because the ferry boats were not running because of the rough seas. Thank God for the taxi driver in Jamaica that took us to do everything we wanted for $15 a person.
just double checking some of you may know who just got done cruising…the way i read it …through 1 Jun 2009, kids under 18 do not need a passport, just a birth cert. if travel is by sea to normal carribean/mexico cruise spots?
anyone?
thanks
in the Caymans, plan for bone’s. Just south of 7 mile, there are some flats that are hard and hold good no.'s of bonefish on the rising tides. small little to no weight flies/ weedless should fool plenty. guides there will generally take you too the same spots, either by car or by boat. although a few are exceptional- eubanks was his last name, but thats about all of their names. since you’ll probally only be here a short time, a guide would put you immedately on fish, they are not big, but numerous. some small tarpon to 40lbs help to keep the insanity. good luck
Sprig, we are cruising Royal Caribbean next month and have been in contact with them about te passport situation for some time now. They have told us that you will not need a passport to travel by cruise boat until June 2009 at the earliest. And that is for adults as well. This date has moved several times and we have also contacted the Passport Services Office as well and have received the same answer. The only reason you will need a passport before then would be if you had an emergency and had to fly back into the US while on your cruise. As long as you enter and exit at the port, you do not need a passport. At least not yet.
Bow East, we did that same cruise a couple of years ago. All of the excursions were canceled in Cozumel on this cruise, but we had been to Cozumel once before and had a great time on the Catamaran Snorkel Trip. The water was beautiful and there was a lot to see around the reef that we went to. Once the snorkel portion of the trip was over, you got bat on the boat and it was a party all the way to the private beach. At the private beach, there was great food, more drinks, and lots of activities to keep you entertained or hammocks if you wanted to relax. In Jamacia, we climbed Dunn River Falls. You have to do this at least once in your life. Just be warned, they did not prohibit anyone from attempting this climb. I spent much of time helping old women and kids. It was still a lot of fun. We were able to find a taxi that drove us around all day and gave us a great tour of the island while we were there. This turned out to be much cheaper than if we would have booked each of these excursions through Carnival. The beach at Monterrey Bay was really nice. Right by the docks is a fenced in area with a lot of shops. I didn’t care anything about the shops, but they had a Margaritaville in there that I couldn’t help but visit. It was really cool. There is a pool with a bar in the middle, a waterslide and lots of people just generally having a good time. It was a couple of hours of entertainment.
