crab pattern flies

I was wondering if some of you fly fishermen could post some pics of your favorite china back, peeler and/or stone crab fly pattern. I know I can find an assortment on the web but I’d like to see Charleston local fly patterns. I grew up…well, that’s debatable…so let’s just say I spent the first 23 years of my life in Mount Pleasant. I’ve really gotten to enjoy tying flies and have come up with a few different fly patterns for crabs, shrimp, mullet and menhaden. What I’m looking for here is “Mad Mike’s copper head crab” BEFORE it was so famous. I want to see the guys who tie flies post up some original stuff before it actually becomes the “next greatest thing”.

The only thing I would be careful of when trying to imitate a fiddler or stone crab is to remember one key thing… God, or nature, whatever you wish to believe, designed the fiddler to blend in perfectly with his surroundings so that he wouldn’t get eaten… if you tie a fly that looks like one of them, your fly is gonna blend in too, and the eat ratio goes way down… The one reason my fly works well, is that the fish can see it… its that simple really…

a fish can’t eat what a fish can’t see…

Thanks for the pro tip. I see that in your crab fly as well as ScottyD’s drum beater…just enough flash to get their attention but not enough to alarm them. I’ve never caught a red OTF but tying flies for them is thrilling in it’s own right. WHEN I do catch a red with an original fly that I tied…■■■■, what a feeling that’s going to be.
