Crabbing with my Daddy 08/01

Finally got a day off to go crabbing with my daddy again. Went to bed hearing the rain pound on the roof and worried that we’d get rained out on monday, but 0400 could see stars shining outside with occasional clouds passing by…short time later get a call form daddy saying we’re still going so headed for the village. Foggy as heck for the ride there…and still foggy when we hit the water…

dreary…but the cooler temps were nice. Big tides and marsh had a lot of the pots “rolled up” and moved a little…but we were able to find and work all of them. I love pulling crab pots…its like finding a treasure chest in a way…go ahead…laugh…but think about it…you pull on a rope and a “box” of sort appears and you never know what you’ll find in it…today we had a mixture of crabs,conchs,hermit crabs in their “condo shells”…who look like some big spider as they crawl out only to quickly disappear back inside when you try to grab them…a sting ray…4 sheephead…3 flounder…and a “hog choke” and a toad fish…amazing how some of that stuff can get in there! Was cool and overcast all day…and kinda strange…on the ride home I was thinking about the day and realized that we saw no pelicans, seagulls or dolphin…all who are usually looking for a free meal… think maybe they were sleeping in??:wink: Daddy let me pull most of them…but made me be the "driver " some too. I really think Im a better puller than driver…esp in the drains…:smiley: heres a few pics…

I don’t dare show this to my wife, she is already on me about bringing her down this weekend to do some crabbing. I really want to fish but may end up in the Bulls bay area crabbing. Thanks Penny! Of course all that depends on what TS Emily does.

Penny you need to find Michael Trouche and the two of you could concoct a hit bigger than the swamp people. What you do is much more interesting and the harvesting of things to eat is as old as man people would eat it up. Especially after your cooking show is attached to it you’re sitting on a once in a life time chance we all love what you do and wish we could be with you, it would be like driving a Nascar car to go fish with dad and Penny.

awwww…you guys are sooo. sweet…i told daddy some of you said you’d love to go with him…he laughed…but you know what…if he was smart he’d say c’mon…and then “let” ya’ll pull the pots…and he could just drive…hahaha

That is so true. I told Penny that last year. One of the local stations could run the show and have more viewers watching Penny
than any other show they run all week! Fishin, crabin with Dad,
shrimpin and last but not least cookin!

NO, No, no, no, no! We aint sharin her and her talents with nobody!!! Next thing you’ld have is a bunch of folks campin out in her driveway waitin for leftovers!!! And I aint givin up my campin spot for no one!:slight_smile:

Penny - This might have already been asked and answered in a previous post but I’d love to hear you and your dad’s take on this theory that our thriving red fish fishery is actually starting to have an adverse effect on the number of blue crabs being harvested. Over the years have ya’ll seen a decline in crab numbers as red fish conservation efforts have become so successful?

If you’re not effecting the world around you in a positive manner…you’re taking up too much space.
