What a great storybook! I hope to give my son times like that. Lord knows, I have very few memorable times involving my father. You are truly blessed; both of you.

"Kiss my ass, I bought a boat; I’m goin’ out to sea." (Jimmy Buffett covering Lovett)
We had 194 that were "ready "to ship on that day…daddy threw double that back over.
Yesterday he had 110… And more pots emptied by someone else.
Even his "jimmy ". Traps where he had put the male crabs for the next day were empty again.
Thieves.
They may gain from it now…but they wil one day have to answer for it.

Heard someone did that last week and caught another crabber on tape…not sure if it’s so…but hope it is!
I’m hitting the water with daddy again in the morning! Can’t wait! At least my week off hasn’t been totally lost. One trip fishing…two with daddy crabbing…fought some rain, wind and lots of gnats…but at least I got to get out there!

Was that one trap that was mangled hit by a prop…? There are lots of lost traps in Winyah Bay. McClelanville is such a civilized place it seems. That has to be an organized effort to steal like that. We run over lost/abandoned traps all the time and I used to hesitate to even touch them until I found dying turtles in them.
Red stripe…it was… Spot he built a couple weeks ago. Problem is is that when it’s peeler season A lot of crabbers move as the crabs move…they work areas from the south north from what I hear…and dump lots of pots over. They pile them all up and don’t care if they dump on top of someone…then when they go to pull their pots they often run over others in doing so. I don’t think that it’s done on purpose…least not that part…but it’s a loss no matter how you look at it. Someone we know ran over one of daddy’s last year and stopped us to tell him so…told him if it couldn’t be fixed or if he wanted it replaced to just let him know…and apologized for it. Now that’s the way it should be. At least he got the rope and iron back on that one. …but the pot could not be saved.
If people would just learn to show a little consideration of others…the world would be a whole lot nicer place…and that goes for a lot of things.
I hit the road again in the morning at 0430 to go run traps with daddy…I hope tomorow will be good to him
Peeler season is like a gold rush I guess. They get like 5/6 times what they would for a normal crab…? I saw a show on NC PBS where they have some type of Co Op for the soft shells. The crabbers would bring them into some tanks, and sell them when the time was right, and split the money. It sucks people are like that, but they are…#128520;
Penny I can relate to trap theft also. We try to make sure the traps are out of the way of blind boat drivers etc. They are some areas you crab and the pirates are not as common. I almost caught one of these misfits a couple years ago just south of Bckhall. He pulled my trap ?nd took off with it.Too bad his boat was faster than mine. I would note that he had a commercial number on his boat. I informed the DNR officer on duty at yhe ramp of incident and the number on the boat. The officer said it was not the first time he had complaints on the vessel/operator.
dont think we have to worry much longer about thieves…peeler season seems to have already ended before it started. everyone we talked to today are seeing lower numbers…we only had 88 that were at the stage to ship. Some were close but once they are put in the coolers before shipping (if not done here locally) the cold slows the shedding process. It takes vey little time for this process to occur…in fact you can find one “backing out” of its too small shell…put it in a bucket and often by the time you go in its backed out. that’s why the people who actually put the in shedding houses/water have to monitor them around the clock.
