I got a chance to go crabbing with daddy Friday. Donnie took his brother david fishing giving me a good chance to slip away…but not before he asked me if I was still going to load the boat and pack lunch as I usually do:flushed:…nope//told him I was trying to teach them to be independent…haha…but i did put most of the stuff in the boat for them…and a quick trip by them to haddrells had them set for bait.
Quick stop at hardees for me At 0445 for the traditional biscuits we have together with mom before we head out…I rolled into their yard in Mcclellanville a little before 0600. Mirror like waters and overcast skies as we left the creek…smell of salt and marsh in my nose with a heaviness in the air warning us that we might see a shower before the day was done. We got lucky and didnt get any rain…donnie and david…not so much:imp: donnie said Roo was very insulted…and david said he couldnt believe how thoughtful donnie was as he handed him a jacket…until he told him it was for roo!
We saw four king fishers as we headed out,such pretty little birds,…theres one that we always look for on the back side of papas island in a old dead tree. I always look at daddy rather than the tree … waiting for the tell tale smile that will let me know he sees it there.

On the way out daddy was telling me how “in the old days”… when people used oxen to pull the plows in the fields… they would come and cut marsh grass to feed them . He also told me as we worked “telephone creek”…that during world war 2 and after …there were telephone lines that ran thro
