Crabbing with my Daddy

Well finally…another day in my crazy schedule that allowed me to slip away and spend a day ( thursday)on the water with my daddy!
Left the house at 0430( A sleepy Roo and Donnie just stare at me like i have two heads when I do this)… for the trip to the village( construction in mt pleasant makes this trip ohh so much longer).Road was pretty bad up around buckhall due to controlled burns in the forest…and sometimes the air was so acrid it would take my breath away. Got to my mom and daddys to find daddy already up and beating around the house…Im sure it was because he was so excited that his number one striker was going to be there:wink:. On the water at 0630…and my dolphin friend was no where to be found.…but did catch a glimpse of him later in the day…strangely…the boat sped up and i wasnt able to call to him:imp:…and daddy had a look of happiness on his face…haha. Wind was already kicking up…and it was oohhh so cold! Except for knowing it wasnt going to rain…Crazy me didnt look at the weather report in my excitement to go…so I had my usual shorts and double shirts on…thank goodness I didnt clean out the back of my trailblazer…as I was able to dig up a pair of jeans ,socks and a sweatshirt. :flushed:
heres a few pics form the day…big tides and winds had a lot of the pots buried deep and wrapped up…but we were able to find them all.BTW…“regular” gas in the village that day…3.97.9 a gallon!!![:0]

Amazing Miss Penny. Simply amazing.

Penny, next time u go take the second left when u get in Mt P. Follow Mathis Ferry all the way around. Bypass all those lights and construction. Thanks for the crabbin report, sure makes me miss crabbin wit my dad as a kid in mobile bay. We had a few traps and also ran a long line. Had to watch him close when runnin the line cause some times he would flip a crab at you when scooping it up.

Never thought to take that detour…will do next time! Thanks… I wish I could quit work and hang with my daddy in the creeks everyday…really.
Will have to tell you he gives me grief( in a good way) all day long…and will fuss at me but laugh at the same time…tells me if I don’t like him bossing me around to get out on the nearest bank…lol…
Took him a first aid kit of sorts this time…and reminded him that there was baby aspirin in there too…heart issues run in his family…he looked at me and laughed…and said" now what do I need those for…if its my time to go its my time to go"… To which I played right in with and said…" yeah…but if you dot make it back to the ramp I won’t know where to find MY crab boat" Lol…we just laughed and laughed…

Thank you, for taking the time to share your pictures and experiences with us I look forward to your posts.

Thanks for your post Penny!!! Enjoy every day with your parents you can.

Dear Penny…Thank you for the wonderful peak into traditional low country life. That washing machine was way “off the grid”, and the seafood platter was a home run. The heck with length and weight…it’s all about the seafood combo back in the creeks. Cold morning sunrises are truly an “Alive” moment in time, and each one you experience is memorable. All the more so when spent with a kindred spirit like your dad.
