Crabbing with my Daddy

Mom went out of town for a few days on a trip with some friends…and I promised her I would make sure to check in with and on daddy( lol…did she forget i call them three times a day?)…and that I might “–> (her saying)—>consider going crabbing” with him too when he went friday…ok…sure mom…I’ll TRYYYY:wink:. Long and short of it…Friday morning found me dodging deer on I26 making my way “home”. I swear those deer have a game of…“lets scare the pee out of the drivers”…but it sure will keep you awake!

Got to mom and daddys a little earlier than usual…hardees biscuits in hand…which brought a smile to daddys face when I walked through the door. Well I try to think it was seeing me…but I think it was the biscuits too:smiley:
Lazy butt hadnt even hooked up to the boat yet…told him I was going to tell mom he had gotten slack while she was gone:smiley:
Ramp only had four trucks there when we arrived…so no line to hold us up. Dumped daddy over…parked the truck and joined him . Stiff NE wind blowing in our faces and I was glad I had snagged a flannel shirt and a pair of jeans to go over my shorts for the ride out.

jeans, flannel, coveralls(even if they are my cut off ones),'to’boggin for my head…boots…boots??? sitting in the garage at home !

daddy called this a sun dog morning??
said weather was a’changing…and it did…all day long!

looks like mountains behind those palms!

Awesome… Good read, good times, and more important, good memories! You spending time with your dad is the way life was meant to be!

That was pretty funny about the boat muddin up, them creeks will bite cha in a minute.

Very nice post, reminds me of past times spent with my dad, castnetting for mullet, crabbing with chicken necks…“salt of the earth” folks are disappearing and your post is a reminder of this. Thanks for the memories.

Penny always love your trips home. Question?? I will be going to Charolotte in Beginning of November, since you have a know how on Crabbing what are the chances of getting Fresh Bluecrabs at that time??

thanks for sharring Penny. At first I really thought you caught that big gold fish…lol…you never know what you might pull out of this water.

Always a pleasure to read. Brings back memories of shrimping with my daddy. Hope one day my daughter will make memories with my out on the water.

Loved the report and pictures.
Thanks for posting.

Well done, Penny. Your writings remind me of South Carolina’s native son, Archibald Rutledge. You are really blessed with a great character to write about. I hope you are saving material. I think you could do a book about McClellanvilles’ watermen. Look at what Dorothea Franks has written about the folks from the Isle of Palms area. She’s getting rich. Surely the folks from McClellanville are more interesting than the city dwellers. Thanks for posting and keep 'em coming, please.

TRTim…I love archibald Rutledges writing and even remember him form when I was young. He even wrote a poem for my mom. The one about “WEAKNESS and STRENGTH” is one of my favorites.
Thanks to all for your kind words…and thanks to all for indulging me in my ramblings
