Crabbing

Just posted about a spot to go and made me think of something.

Anybody on here ever crab from your kayak?

I used to drop a cooler between my legs and drop in behind the Piggly Wiggly on Folly road.

I’d drop a 6 ft piece of string with a weight and chicken on one end and a huge cork on the other. Just paddle up lift the line and net crabs. If you haven’t done it, gotta be one of the easiest ways to catch crab. Used to do this if the tide went slack and the fish weren’t bighting.

Doesn’t sound easier than throwing out a trap in Folly Creek and sending my son out to get it the next day.

Now that you mention it, maybe a way to get bait for those reds?

I have started Kayak crabbing as well. It certainly gives me something to do when the fish are shy. I use a single basket style crab trap that folds flat and tucks neatly into the rigging on the back of my kayak deck. I am happy to have the bulkhead in the rear of my kayak because those crabs never stop trying to escape and I wouldn’t want to loose one under my seat.
