Cracker Cat SCSSA May 12

Had my Sis and Whaler Driver join the Shrimpa and I on another epic quest into the deep greenish blue.

Got out there no problem. High speed trolled for a while with no dice. Sis saw a school of fish busting the surface on a developing rip. Slowed down and saw they were dolphin after I thought they were tuna at first.
We stopped and deployed the squid and light tackle. Chummed them under the boat. For the next 2 hours we had them schooled up. There were some big boys in the school, so we stayed on them for a while. There were a lot of dolphin…I mean a lot. We caught a bunch and threw even more back. I busted out the fly rod and got a smaller one. Then I hooked one that went just shy of 15, which was a lot on a 9 weight fly rod. Gave the fly rod to Shrimpa and he got a nice one. Let sis have a try and she hooked a nice one, it ran and dropped it…then two more sent after the fly and she hooks one. An hour and a half later she got it to the boat. It was hooked funny to say the least and she did not know how to put pressure on the fish, so we had to sit there and listen to her whine and curse like a sailor for a long time.

During her fight, we also found that the port motor did not start. It appeared to be the starter. I switched the starboard system on to the port system to help give it power. Did not work. We fooled with it for a while and could not figure it out and were contemplating the 6 hour ride home.
By a stroke of fortune, were able to hail the Dark Star which happened to have Scales (Chris V) on board. They were nice enough to pull off of a bite during a tournament to help a brother out. Within minutes, Dark Star was screaming over the horizon at us. DOD came in hot and Scales did a move only Brian Boytano has attempted on the uneven bars to score a perfect 10. Scales asked me about my battery set up, I told him. He tried a few things. Didn’t think the started was getting power. I told him that I had the crossover on and it was reading 13volts on that motor.

Cracker. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. I had an engine do that a few years ago and I don’t even want to tell you what the root cause was… <powerhead>… Hopefully it’s something minor. You can hop on with me while you are getting her fixed up.

Makes you think twice about the chinese restaurants. That **** sits on the table all day!!

Cracker,

Had a great time. So glad I brought my 975 with me so I could pitch to the dolphin. First time with that reel. Had a blast. Hey, I know how to clean fish, maybe not as fast as you, but I skinned and fileted those I carried home in pretty quick fashion. Most of the filets are in the freezer waiting on a big fish fry that is coming up soon. :sunglasses:

seriously…

Glad help was out there for you.

Have you found out or heard of what the problem with your port engine was? We have had problems with the ECM on a suzuki after it was run with low batt amperage. The same type thing has happened where it would not start until the wiring was changed to get it more amps. Showed 13V charge but still not enough amps to run right.

Cracker,I once had abuddy that was feeling kind of puny and someone on the boat asked him if he would like a greasy pork chop sandwich. The thought of that was all it took for him to call Europe, so make sure you don’t have any old pork chop sandwiches in the cabin either.
