Crappie-GCR

I have a buddy that caught some nice crappie out of a pond not long ago. I was wondering if anyone knows if the crappie are hitting at GCR? If so, should I fish my minnows on bobbers in shallow or deep water?

I’m no expert on GCR but I would think this time of the year would mean deep, especially with the current cold weather. I’ve been fishing Lake Marion lately and almost all crappie are deep.

That makes sense. I’ve only ever fished for them in the spring and that was shallow. There aren’t too many deep spots in GCR so that should be fairly easy to narrow down. Thanks.

How fast do you typically troll?

Spent 8 hours on the water yesterday with nothing but a 26 inch bowfin to show for it. Fished minnows/shinners under bobbers along the edges and deeper structure with no success. Tossed a beetle spin for longer than I want to admit with no hits. Only saw a few fish on the fish finder. I think I’ll wait until march or april to try again.
