I was wanting to plan a father/son weekend at Santee State Park with the camper and the boat. Anyone heard of good things happening with crappie yet?
In and out with the changing water levels and temperatures. Looks like we will be having some more stable temps…its getting started, but on the early side. Saw 2 2.5 lb black crappie caught out of the back end of a canal in Bonneau last week, but then it got cold again. Good luck…nothing like a good father/son fishing trip/memory
A little further down on the Tailrace, you can have all the father/son fun insanity you can handle with the shad and herring. I’ve had my son out there 3 times in the past month and had fun every time.

That’s Santee Canal State Park
That’s guys. I’m thinking of a cast and blast weekend with Turkey on Saturday and crappie on sunday over opening weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed for some steady warm weather.

This coming weekend is the big father/son trip. Anyone heard any good reports coming in on the crappie?

Welp…it was a bust. Rain and wind kept us from getting on the lake on Saturday. Probably best as the rental boats at Lake Marion Resort and marina were pitiful. We showed up at 8 after being told for two weeks that they would open early for us so we could get out on the water early. 9 o’clock they show up just like their sign says. One of their boats looked like a mountain lion sharpened it’s claws on the seat cusions as they were ripped up with stuffing hanging out, another had no seats at all just a make shift plywood standing center console and the other two looked to be from 1974 from the condition the carpet, black mold cushions and motor looked to be in. By 9:30 their “mechanic” said the conditions were too bad and would let us cancel without a penalty. The woman, said excitedly in her sexiest pack and a half a day voice(in front of our kids 11,8 & 4)“Boys let me tell ya, when a storm pops up on this Lake…you gotta @#@# and get.” I still haven’t figured out what that even means. So we went back to the state park and fished in the little rocks pond in the rain under a tarp and didn’t get a bite. So we went through Eutawville and ate at Sweatman’s then went to my club in Holly Hill and fished the farm ponds on the edge of the swamp. Managed two small bluegill. It was still a blast hanging out with my buddies and our sons. I was impressed…none of them *****ed or moaned once and stuck it out and fished through the rain and cold. Looking forward to the next father/son trip up to Oconee State park fishing the Chatooga River. I don’t make a habit of bashing business’s but save your time, money and patience and don’t do business with Lake Marion Resort and Marina until they make VAST improvements.
