Crappie

I can catch my fair share of catfish, but I’ve never fished for crappie. Can anybody give me any pointers or advice?

try fishing with live minnows on a slip cork about 8-15’ deep in 20-30’ of water. seems to be where i catch them at in the winter, in the river though. also throw a crappie jig or grub around while sitting or trolling with minnows. never tried the lake for crappie.

thanks

Look online, there’s a map that shows where DNR has placed fish attractors. That’s a logical, easy to find place to start. Start by dropping minnows to the level of the brush, or a bit higher. You can also drop jigs down, and do the same thing. Do the same thing with any random brush piles you see on your depthfinder.

For as added bonus, take a tube of crickets, and drop a cricket down around that deeper brush. You can find some big schools of bream that way.

Crappie have a tendency to look up…they’ll go up for a bait quicker than they’ll go down for a bait. It’s better to fish several feet above a brushpile, then gradually work your way down depth wise to it.
