Ran with Steve and Shane for a day of catching. we started sabiking bait near the shipping channel, big sardines and cigar minnows, and even goggle eyes and tinker mackerel! We tried to plug in a way point, and the 12" Raymarine locked up! This was not a good start. After 2 hours of screwing with the unit, we finally got smart enough to run in to cell range and call tech support. five minutes later, we were on our way. The fishing was as we expected, no current, and a wide open bite. You can thank the SAFMC for saving the nearly extinct B-liners, we threw back at least 50, with NONE under size! most of the fish were 2lb +, with a couple going 22". The B-Liners were so hungry, they were eating our grouper baits (live cigar minnows), and we were catching them on 9/0 circle hooks. We moved twice to get off them! we ended up with 4 grouper, 1 short snapper, a bunch of triggers, red porgies, joltheads, white grunts, a few big BSB’s, and one king.
thanks Steve, it was fun.

Just think, as much as we complain and hate the fact they’ve taken this fishery from us, just tink of the size we’ll be catching them in the next couple years if this continues…Just as was done with the BSB moving size limit up from 10-12 now you catch bigger ones…I bet in 2 years you’re averaging a 22" length on the fish and they won’t be considered just the “usuals” anymore, they’ll be prize…
Nice report sells, you never disappoint. Stud fish!

I understand fully there sells. Ive rarely see reports from you guys where you don’t limit the boat in b-liners. Also I rarely see reports where you don’t limit in grouper and ARS which also makes me wonder why the limits are so tight. If you look @ reports from Pensacola, FL area they can’t get away from the Red Snapper. They have to move like we do here to get away from B-liners…
Me personally out of Charleston in my 4 or 5 trips I’ve only caught b-liners once…Only had 1 trip to the Y and Commanche where I caught nothing but large b-liners, atleast the ones I could get up quick enough before a cuda ate it. Then again I never could get back on the fish @ the Y or Commanche all the rest of my trips, just had to fish hard bottom areas. I’d love to go out with some of you charleston natives that can put me on some REAL fish! I haven’t caught a grouper since I was about 10 or 11 yrs old…

Paul, great trip. Steve, thanks for the invite. Fun trip in spite of the b-liner frustration. Seriously, we threw back into the ocean 150lbs+ of snapper! That is just rediculous.
Thanks again for the Trigger cleaning seminar!
