Absolutely insane day of fishing this morning. Woke up at 5:15 and hit the water at 5:30. We loaded up on giant mullet (hopefully signaling the mullet run is near) and headed off to an undisclosed area behind Sullivan’s island. We also caught a few whiting and sent 'em way back under balloons. Got destroyed by a bunch of big annoying sharks and caught a few black tips. Next thing you know we see a massive tarpon break the surface right behind our baits. He grabs one of the mullet and leaps the entire length behind the boat before he broke off on the gill plate. We were bummed but the only thing you can do is keep fishing. About 30 minutes later an even bigger tarpon 130-150 lbs inhaled one of the whiting and booked it. He spit it just as fast as he had ate it and we were left speechless once again. You don’t get a shot at TWO tarpon in one day to often especially considering how bad the sharks have been. The chase begins again next weekend!!!
