Crazy Experience

A while back Ralph told me that he caught a mullet on artificial years ago this time of year. He said that when the algae goes away they will strike a lure.

Today, God’s honest truth, I caught four mullet around 2 lbs on suspending hard baits. In the mouth.

I probably wouldn’t believe me either… :sunglasses:

Have to say, that’s a first for me. Hopefully that wasn’t the extent of your day though. Lol!!

Caught this little guy on the fly a couple of weeks ago. Apparently he couldn’t resist a shrimp pattern.

Wow, that’s crazy. If someone had told you they were catching mullet on suspending baits, you’d probably want to question their knowledge of inshore species.

That’s amazing:sunglasses: I’ve caught a few mullet on dough balls and worms, but never on an artificial.

The deck of your boat could use a coat of paint  So could mine [:I]

Looks like there is a healthy mullet charter business in your future maybe!

After that whiting in GC I’ll believe just about any fish hookup

Larry, Ya she’s 50 yrs old this year, and is pretty battle worn. One day I’ll give it the full resto - but I’m having too much fun fishing it to take it out of service! Gel coat is badly crazed throughout. Will need to be stripped down to the glass all round. LOTS of work

Optiker slaps too many fish on that deck to want to mess up a nice paint job.

Wow optiker, if this was just random talk i wouldn’t believe it. But I do believe you. Never done this, or seen it done!

My experience with mullet goes back 35 years ago in and around the Bluff plantation with a small gold hook 12" under a cork (tiny split shot weight) with a tiny piece of red worm. What dad didn’t want for dinner was traded at Road Side to Mr. Jim Smith for some adult beverages and a snickers and Mt. dew for me. Cleaned and fresh cooked out of brackish water … not bad… even Dad wouldn’t freeze them. And he eats anything.

Juvenile Striper.

Mullet - the best whole fried fish I have ever had. Learned the secret from a lady down in a Ravenel church. She had several big ones in a 120qt cooler swimming around. The lady grabbed the fish, cut the head, gutted, descaled, breaded and placed the fish (still twitching) in about an inch of hot oil in under a minute.
Goood stuff!

While living in FL I read a article that people were catching loads of
mullet.I cant remember what they were using for bait .A combination of several things .

I DONT HAVE A BOAT
BUT LOVE TO FISH> HINT

I have often wondered if mullet were ever caught on a rod/reel. Now I know. But then again Dave is one of those guys that could catch a fish in a parking lot. I hate those guys.
