Today was one of the most valuable days on the water I have ever had. I learned more about trout in an hour and a half than I have the last 4 years. I started by returning to some of my spots from yesterday, which only produced one fish. Moved to a new spot where I caught a really nice redfish as well as two other small guys. With the sun starting to head down, I found a nice rip and decided to fish it. Spent 10 minutes without a bite before casting up current and letting it drift while reeling it back slowly. That was the pattern. Fished well into the dark, catching a trout on every cast. I stopped only because the needle in my tag gun broke from tagging so many fish [:0] (well… it was also pitch black and freezing). Used one bait the entire day; Zman Diesel MinnowZ on a gold trout eye jig head. Amazing learning experience. Hopefully they will be there tomorrow!
Love hearing when folks have these kind of days! They are almost always a surprise and happen so quickly. good to hear that you slowed things down and didn’t just catch but learned as well…
Happy for you
After checking th dnr target species I see that trout aren’t on the list. Luckily I tagged only 10 of the trout to save the tags I already had. Sorry for my ignorance and thank you guys for letting me know
