Which is stronger? Is one better then the other for certain situations?
I’ve always found the haywire twist to be much stronger. I don’t exactly have huge experience with either, but I’ve put several 50-70 pound stingrays (bagh!) on the pier/surf using both. But the crimps would sometimes slip, the haywire NEVER even budged.
Haywire is not hard to twist, and if I’m surf fishing, I don’t really even get too fussy about how neat of a haywire it is. I just twist it up as much as I reasonably can.
haywire twist requires no extra tools, takes seconds to do, and done properly ive never had one slip from the abuse of sharks.
Use single strand wire instead 49 or 7 strand wire, it’s cheaper and toothy critters can saw through the multi stranded stuff. Keep your crimps for you heavy mono and make sure when your twisting the wire that it is being twisted around each other and not just being wrapped over another piece.
I’m so salt life I sued google earth for giving away all of my fishing spot’s.
