Any one fishing the river for stripers right now? And can some one tell me where I can get some live heraing or live shad. In this area I am at fort gordon I have fished the river a few times and have caught some stripers on small minnows but nothing of real size. Any and help would be great.
you really have to go to clarks hill baitshops to buy any herron. theres 2 on hwy 28 in clarks hill. i have had no luck at all with stripers on the river. now…the bass…we spank there a$$ everytime we go down the savannah river. i have watched ralph barby fish the river on tv and he throws big spooks and other various topwater baits. he seems to do pretty good with um.
Last chance bait store in Jackson has frozen herring, but Stunters right, you have to go to the Hill to get live ones, and even then they all close at like 6pm, so go early.
I think the striper fishing is pretty good there in the spring. Right below some kind of lock or something like that. i have only read about it. But the report I read had some nice fish in the pictures. i can’t remember if it was on here or maybe another site.

oh yea, sully and i showed up after 7 pm one night and the whole town of clarks hill was shut down. they go to bed early in those parts of the woods. sully and i got really pissed, drove back to aiken, got drunk, and talked smack about the baitshops closing early:stuck_out_tongue:
herring hut just below the dam has herring almost all the time (hwy 28) i know they open at 6:30 not sure when they close --need to call first -lately there have been shortages of herring round the lake-think they all might be restocked by now but u never know- #864-333-2000
Buddy of mine got a 30lb striper over the weekend while he was crappie fishing in Plum Branch. Said he had some cut-bait out for cats, and the striper took it. Said he also lost a rod out of a rod holder that had to have been another big striper.
