Go Heels. I agree with Mark. UNC has good talent even though we did lose Gio Bernard to the NFL - USC has Clowney and that’s all I give them credit for. I hope that USC takes this game lightly. It just depends on whether the Heels show up or not / get intimidated by the atmosphere at Williams Brice. Renner is a better QB than Shaw and UNC has better receivers. Just have to have time to throw the ball! Tall order with Clowney bearing down on you. I think it will be a competitive game but its very tough to beat USC at home…for anybody. Would be a great win for UNC if they could pull it off.

UNC has owned this rivalry historically by a long shot but I think the last 4 games have gone to USC (?) something like that. Its “what have you done for me lately” that counts in college football so I don’t put too much stock in what happened decades ago. I do believe that UNC is getting better and better lately (save the NCAA problems under Davis) and they have a great coach in Larry Fedora. Maybe they can exhaust Clowney and the USC defense with the no huddle offense…don’t know how that will play out…I look forward to a tight game and hope that the stars align right and we beat USC at home in the opener. A 1pt win is fine with me.
I don’t take anything away from USC…they’ve had great success in the past couple years and have come a long way in their program under Spurrier. I think my dislike for Spurrier hurts my view of USC as a whole, but nothing really against their players. They’re a solid team with great assistant coaches. And Clowney is awesome but I don’t think his stats exactly match the hype yet. What he does better than anyone is make key game changing plays. Hope Hurst can handle him and keep him off of Renner. Better eat his Wheatie’s! HA!
My family came from North Carolina…so I’ve been raised a Tarheel, watching them since I could walk. But, I graduated from USC and my cousin is the cheerleading coach there…kind of torn between the schools…but still a Heel. I’ll be wearing Carolina Blue that day…
Just for clarification, I despise UNC, sorry OBX. However, I don’t think anyone is giving them credit for the recruiting the Fedora has done. I give them a legit shot in the opener mainly because Sakkerliner has been a slow starter in years past. If UNC can keep them from grinding out those long drives and keep the tempo high, they win a close one. UNC gets drug through the mud and beat up if they don’t.

You guys lost three NFL draft picks on the offensive line. Gio is gone. You lost your best two defensive players. SC has out-recruited UNC for three of the past four recruiting classes, has the better coach and is playing at home – yet all SC has is Clowney? Wow. There is a reason Vegas set the line at almost two touchdowns…

I believe I saw where UNC out-recruited USC this year. Doesn’t matter…UNC should be the underdogs given what you stated - so if the game is even closely fought, USC should drop from their current over-ranked #7 status since we’ve lost so much as you said. That was a good win for you guys. You were the number 1 seed. Too bad they couldn’t do much with it, kind of like every other year in UNC baseball.
I don’t think anyone claims USC is the God of sports. USC is a traditionally horrible football program. They are traditionally much better than UNC in baseball. UNC is obviously vastly superior in basketball. UNC is also regarded as a better academic school (although let’s not get carried away – USC, UNC, and Clemson are really all just big state schools that are more alike than not).
But this notion that USC is a 20s team is just stupid. I guess you just get caught up in the heat of talking trash, but whether you like it or not, USC is a much better team in football than UNC right now. Hell, when Brad Lawing had to leave Columbia because of his affair, what did SC do? Just snatch UNC’s d-line coach like it was nothing. It’s pretty clear which program is top dog in the Carolinas right now.
I believe that UNC has been to the world series more than USC in the past 10 years, though as you said, we haven’t brought it home. That’s really required to get any respect so I’ll give you that. It hurts not to have at least one title out of all of that…no doubt. A lot of baseball teams are in that same boat - lot of trips, no titles. However, I would put UNC up against USC in baseball any day. Mike Fox has a tough and consistent team every year.
Basketball - you hit that one on the nose. USC doesn’t even have a basketball team to speak of. (except for the girls team - can’t take anything away from Staley’s team). Based on recent news, if some of our players don’t control themselves, we may not have a very good team this year either. Always something!
But, you are accurate in that USC has the better football team right now. There’s no doubt about it. UNC has great NFL class talent in spots every year (they put a lot of players in the pros), but they haven’t put a season together yet. I’m objective enough to concede that fact. Fedora is only 2 years into his reign. His recruits are just now hitting the field. So, his current program is unproven. He has work to do to get any real credibility and attention. Finishing 8-4 isn’t going to do it either. We have to at least challenge for the ACC championship. I think he’s the guy that can get them back to it. What I believe is that the competitive gap is tightening and we’re getting closer…
Taking our defensive line coach…yeah, that sucked. But, lets face it…there’s probably more money in it for him at USC. USC thought enough of one of our coaches to go after him. That’s one way of looking at it.
As far as academics, I agree with you on the state school theory. They’re pretty much the same. I have family that went to UNC and Clemson - no appreciable difference in the schools based on what they’ve told me. BTW - I graduated from USC - so I don’t really have any interest in running down USC’s academic prog

Yeah Y’all won but doesn’t change the fact that there was a lot of wine and cheese there right beside Danny Ford near the beloved rock. I believe we split the last 2 games but not sure. You guys won the last one. We stunk that one up in the 3rd quarter.
Can’t say the same for your basketball or baseball teams. We tend to beat the mud out of them.
