Jerms, not sure which type you are referring to. Most of the decals now are sandwiched between a layer of softer plastic (top) and harder, clearer plastic on the bottom. Remove the bottom which comes off easily, position on blank, then rub the top layer with a burnishing tool until the decal is pressed down (take extra time on the edges). Then peel the top layer back. Most of these are laser cut so there are no hard egdes or corners.
For decals that have a clear square/rectangle egdes I round the corners with an X-acto knife before peeling so there is no chance for the corners to curl up when applying the epoxy.
Then there are some that are like the standard decals that have just a backing to remove. Some, like the ones the Lamiglas provides are clear and are an absolute pain to separate without getting fingerprints in the adhesive which show up nicely on a black blank. For those you have to be patient and try to separate with a x-acto knife and fight the urge to touch with your fingers. Once in position, rub with a burnishing tool so that all the egdes are pressed down.
The last I have encountered are the ones that are like the decals that came in the old-school model cars that you have to soak in hot water.
