Cut Bait

Seems like it should be about that time. Haven’t had any time to get the boat ready, so I’m just going to throw out some cut bait from the bank at the dam this evening.

Anyone tried any cut bait on Murray lately?

I have not, but they are up on the shallow points and humps. Plus the water is up at the right temperature. Should work. I’ve never caught anything but cats fishing cut bait from the dam. Although I have been attacked by fire ants on several occasions. They really seem to like cut herring.

Good Luck T
Stopped by the Dam yesterday morn and the young man fishining from the dock claimend to have picked up 2 stripers.
Hope to get the boat in the water Fri. for a shake down run, and with a little luck pick up a keeper for dinner.
See ya on the water soon.

I need to do the same. Been out once all year so far. I gotta figure out whats draining my new battery, change oil, plugs etc…Plan on doing all that this weekend and getting back out there.

We’re slammed at work this year and I’m working late a lot. But, once we fill some openings, I’m hoping to find some time to do some early am weekday fishing before heading in to work, so I’ll see you out there.

Wound up with a 3 lb catfish and lost a 2nd about the same size fishing off the bank at the dam. Not much of a catch, but after a busy day, there is something to be said for being able to fish, drink a cold beverage watching the sun go down and not having to mess with the boat when you get home.

when you fish from the bank at the dam, where do you do that? just from the rocks?

You go inside the cage?
Cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark’s in the water. Our shark.

Yea…usually right there where the parking lot runs along the water. I put a couple of pieces of PVC in the rocks for rod holders. That was the first time I tried it this year, but I have caught stripers there about this time of year in previous years. You’re never gonna clobber’em there, but its the one time of the year where you actually got a reasonable shot at getting a striper or 2 from the bank.

DNR is over there quite a bit. If you try it, remember if you are fishing from the bank you can only have 2 rods/person in the water.
