tom, phishinphan i’m going to cut bait saturday.since it has ben slow for pulling baits.i will be at the same place if you see me stop and fish a while.
I don’t normally cut bait fish but I am thinking of trying for the first time this weekend. Any advice? Can I just cut the BBs in half?
I know about double anchoring. Good spots? Points? drop offs from 10-30 feet or so is what I am thinking?
I am putting in at the SCE&G ramp off of 378 on SC-400. Don’t know the name of it because I usually put in at Shulls.

yea cut the bbs in 3 pieces.you got the depth right.i try to anchor on a drop off.i can fish shallow and deep.i’m not sure which landing you are talking about 3 or 4.i thinking 4.i’ll put in at spinners.it’s between 3 and 4.they sell bait there to.

sharky,
what I have always wondered about cut bait fishing, especially this time of year when the fish aren’t 50 feet down:
when you go and throw an anchor or two somewhere if you spotted some fish, would they not run off? Or I guess the main philosophy of cut bait fishing is you find a likely spot and let them come to you, right?

2 anchors 200ft of rope on each.mark your fish through out bouy.go up wind-current 100ft drop anchor.drift 100ft past bouy drop anchor.pull front rope until over bouy tie off and do the same for back one.i’ve had good luck doing it like this.it doesn’t seem to scare the fish as bad dropping anchor that far away.i hope this helps.i’ll do this several times a trip.
'preciate it! makes sense, we actually do the same thing on artificial reefs out of gtown when jigging or bottom fishing. circle around to upwind, drop anchor, let the anchor line out until we back over something promising on the depth finder then tie it off.

sounds good sharkey. tom says he’s got your number. if the winds don’t cooperate we may be limited to crystal lake.
Looks great with the winds blowing 20 to 30 mph out of the west. We may go surf at the dam.

We ended up fishing Saturday and sunday. Saturday morning was nice, but the wind kicked up big time around 1:00. We ended up with four short fish. We went back and set up camp and fished from 9pm to 1am without a hit. Fished Sunday morning in the wind until about noon with one short fish. Wind made it tough.
I’m officially taking up sailing. I’m convinced this pronouncement will result in little to no wind when I plan a “sailing” trip.
If that doesn’t work… wind surfing.
Had a blast even though I was 2 days removed from the flu and fighting 20 knot winds all weekend.
A 20" striper on light tackle is still a lot of fun!
hey tom; my son jeremy and i fished sat. morning in the little saluda river and ended up with 12 crappie. we only fished about two hours until the wind started up and trolling battery got weak. all but two were between 3/4 and 1 1/2 pounds. hooked up the boat sun morning; got to food lion and decided it would be no fun so went back home. sorry you guys did not do so well. maybe next time.
Coolbreeze,
Glad you guys caught some. no need to appologize, there is no such thing as a bad fishing trip. Not when we made it in safely and never ran out of beer.
