Cuta stew

So I got me a cuta about 20-25#s this morning and he is ready for the pot. Anyone got a receipe for cuta stew? I have had it before that was like catfish stew…any other ideas for a cuta?

Flour it up and drop it in some hot grease…same method as sunday chicken.

did you get a cooter (turtle) or a cuda (fish). i;ve never hears of a cuta what is it?

I think that I remember the fried “cuta” i had was parboiled first.

Charliehorse I would think parboiling a must…he is one tuff turtle…if I wanted to stew him down wouldnt you say just use it like catfish? You and Holton want to join us at the barn next Saturday for a stew?

Not sure what species cooter you have but my grandma would only cook alligator snapping turtle. She would use a hatchet to split the shell then de-gut it and then she removed all meat and put it in the pressure cooker while starting a vegetable stew after about 20 min in the pressure cooker she would add it to the vegetable stew.

Can’t say that I actually remember it tasting different, that kind of cooking it could have been any kind of meat and it would have tasted good.

Good luck with your “cuta”!

Prepare it like catfish stew, but use crock pot for added tenderness.
