Cutting cable

Can anyone school me on their experiences on cutting the cable bill? I have heard of boxes I can buy through Amazon and stuff that will convert my TV into internet and I can flip channels. Are there other alternatives? Xfinity is getting silly expensive

I know I?m in the distinct minority. But, we’ve never done cable/satellite. We do local stuff and PBS over the air and our BluRay player has wifi that gives access to NetFlix, Sony’s Movie service, Pandora and a lot more. This doesn?t provide a lot of sport that others apparently have to have. But, we spend more time in front of the idiot box than we should, already. I don’t need more stuff I want to watch.

If you have high speed internet and wireless router you can do it.

-Purchase a Roku box for every TV(if TV or DVD player isnt equipped with wireless or hardwired access.)Roku type boxes eliminate the need to wire the enitr house with Ethernet cables. Signal is wireless.
-Get netflix or hulu - small monthly fee.
-Watch TV.

Roku box’s are $50++ each. Netflix is $12 per month. And if you currently bundle your internet service with cable - expect the bill to go up $10+/- for internet when cable is cut. If you have 2-3 users, you may need to upgrade your router.

Then you are limited to what is offered on Netflix - youtube and a few other places.

But you lose local stuff, current TV and sports.

I don’t even have rabbit ears or a television. I have a 30" computer monitor and just watch Netflix or Amazon Prime streaming. I haven’t paid a cable bill in my life-- after I married and had my own place, I never bothered to get cable. Threw the old TV out several years ago and never really missed it. In fact, I sorta feel like I have an advantage over a lot of folks lol, since I don’t bother channel surfing. Kids don’t fight over the remote, I’m not tortured by really lousy plots and bad acting, and no cable bill.

… The Cross of Christ is the anvil upon which the hammer of evil wore itself out.

Figure out a way I can watch CFB in HD without cable and I’ll never look back…

An antennae is all I need, certainly won’t pay for all the trash on cable now.

Thanks, that gave me a lot to think about,i think im paying 140 a month for bundle, seems silly when all of the so called hundreds of channels are ones I don’t even care about
