CWP reciprocity

FYI, looks like Virginia is off the list.

I was also told that SC now recognizes Georgia. Any truth to this?

Not to my recent knowledge, but I’d sure like to see reciprocity between GA and SC. It sometimes causes me some worries.

I took the class Saturday and the instructor told me that SC now has reciprocity with Georgia. I assumed he was correct, but looking online I can’t find anything to back that up.

I know you can easily get your UTAH CWP and it covers GA and a few other states. I’m with you; the only states I’d ever worry about would be those that are close to SC.

If you get Utah it cover Virginia. So that’s an easy work around.

I’m fairly certain VA has an open carry policy on the books. That is, unless this recent action did away with it.

"A firearm may be carried openly in Virginia except where prohibited by statute. Please refer to Sections 18.2-279 to 18.2-311.2. The Code of Virginia may be searched at http://leg1.state.va.us/000/src.htm."

In the future, where every stranger poses a potential threat, knowing the predator mindset is the only safe haven.

Does that include non residents ?

I sure hope SC has changed the law on this.

Thanks for posting!

Question that I’m too lazy to investigate… can a GA resident get a SC CCW permit?

Sure can’t, Larry. I just bought another pistol and inquired about that.

Could have got a better deal on the little LCP in Columbia, but can’t even purchase one there.

I couldn’t find any differentiation between resident and nonresident in their legislation.

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

I still find it funny how I have to pull bessy out of the glove box and put her on the dash when I go into Georgia.

Fred, GA allows you to carry it anywhere in your vehicle, concealed or not, without a permit. Your vehicle is considered an extension of your home.

I didn’t think so, Glenn. Oh well. There is always the Second Amendment as backup

Sure about that? I sure hope that’s it! I’ve always heard that in Georgia you have to have it in plain sight. Maybe because I’m not a resident?

Fred, call this number for any questions you may have regarding the above topic.

706-312-7254 This number is to the Probate Court in Columbia County Ga where those of us that live here have to apply for carry permit.

Hope this helps,
Merry Christmas

No reciprocity between SC and Ga. The SC House passed a Bill this past summer, but it died in the Senate. Thanks to Larry Martin (R-Pickens) and the rest of the GOP leadership.

…Politicians aren’t the “Oldest Profession”, but the results are still the same.

When they come for my guns and ammo. I plan on giving them the ammo. first!

Yes, I am. The only plain sight requirement is for a loaded long gun, which seems strange. Hard to conceal a long gun anyway. Put your loaded pistol anywhere you want it.

Larry, I think I’m more confused now? I’ve been told what you said then I called the number doublen gave. I was told that if you are a resident and have Georgia licence you can do as you say. for a transient or non- licence holder it has to be in plain sight? Also told me to be safe, lock it in the truck when passing through Georgia.

From georgiacarry.org

Q: I don’t have a Georgia Weapons License. Can I carry in my car?
A: Any person who is not prohibited by law from possessing a handgun or long gun may have or carry on his or her person a weapon or long gun on his or her property or inside his or her home, motor vehicle, or place of business without a valid weapons carry license. In addition, such person may carry a long gun, which must be carried openly if loaded. Moreover, such person may carry in his or her own motor vehicle. Finally, if such person is eligible for a Georgia Weapons License, he or she may carry in any private passenger motor vehicle.
