Daily limits

more government stupidity.

50 whiting is plenty for me…so is 15 flounder.

I agree, that is enough. Give me 50 and 15 any day, and you won’t hear me complain.

enough for you maybe, but some count on it for food. idiots that want to keep regulating things that don’t need regulating are whats wrong with this whole fishery. Guess I’ll keep a few more redfish and trout for the freezer this year. And Goldfinch lost another vote.

Its not just whats wrong with the fishery toddn, its whats wrong with the whole country.

Amen Jmack. recreational limits on spot, croaker and whiting??? give me a break. commercial by-catch makes the entire recreational take inconsequential. And before anyone gets upset,I’m not against commercial fishing, just idiot politicians.

So, you’re going to eat 50 whiting/Croaker/Spots a day? Imagine if everyone that leaves the ramp in MI caught and kept every single Whiting/Croaker/Spots they caught every day, where would your fishery be? MI is heavily pressured as it is, keep that mentality up and pretty soon you’ll be saying remember when you could keep everything, now there’s no fish. If Goldfinch lost your vote, then he gained mine. I don’t fish for those bycatch fish but (**() if I won’t protect them in order for my kids to have something to fish for.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I don’t know anything about the spot, whiting and croaker populations really but am all for the special flounder regs in MI and Pawleys (and the new limits for everyone else, are still more liberal). I believe upping the minimum size to 14" has proven to be a good thing, from what I have seen. And heard. I have been too busy to fish but my friends tell me all the time about how many short fish they have to put back. Usually in a complaining manner  I feel like those fish would not be there if people were still allowed to keep fish that wouldn’t even make more than a sandwich.

Spots, where were they last year? Lots of boats after them but most people were asking where the fish were. Was that a one year aberration or valid evidence that the population is in trouble? I think most peoples’ objections to the management come from not believing the people making the regs know the answer.

no I don’t eat that many a day. but only an IDIOT would think they had to all be eaten in one day. Ever heard of a FREEZER. I promise what I catch doesn’t go to waste. My family loves spots and whiting. I stock up when I can and release a lot of the trout and redfish. But, That may come to an end, as I am not buying fish to eat when I can catch em. I still say the recreational catch for these fish is not a drop compared to the by-catch that is discarded dead. just another example of finding a problem where one doesn’t exist.

Oh and show me where the people making the regs know the answer. The same one pushing this was pushing to open the BSB year-round. Might not be good science behind the BSB closures, but at least there was SOME research.

You’re now contradicting yourself. So, you don’t think that there should be a limit on fish that you deem bycatch and discards by the commercial fleet and you catch and freeze them. Makes no sense.

Trout and redfish don’t freeze well and only taste halfway edible if eaten fresh anyway. No one is asking you to buy fish, go out and catch what is a respectable limit. If you need more, go back the next day or week sometime. Never knew spot of whiting were all that hard to catch.

The BSB issue was that the limit was the same, the size limit went up and there are way too many out there. Sensible management is never a bad thing, it is when it swings to far one way or the other that things get out of balance, we’ve seen both on BSB so far. They may just be getting it about right now.

Instead of a knee jerk reaction to why Mr. Goldfinch voted for or was a part of these changes, maybe find out the reason why. I’m sure that you’ll find he is more than knowledgeable on the state of SC fisheries and is doin

I am glad people don’t think seatrout are good to eat.

whiting and spots are gross. LOL!!! Spots are good live bait though.

Dirty Sanchez… The Mustache means I love you.

then publish the research instead of his and your elitist view that “well 50 should be enough” I don’t care if the limit is 5000 what I’ve been saying is that there is no need for a recreational limit at all.

Oh, and if you vacuum pack them, they hold up quite nicely in the freezer.

I dont care why he voted how he did. The simple fact is that our society is growing far too dependant on bureaucrats telling them what they can do, when they can do it, and how much they can do. We dont need more speed limits, catch limits, size limits. We need the people in this country to pull their heads out of their a**'s and use a little common sense.

And instead of wasting OUR money writing new laws, why dont they fund DNR so they can attempt to enforce the laws we have. I fish a lot in Murrells Inlet and have only seen DNR there once this year??

I’d love to take a livewell full of spots for a ride. Don’t think many would make it back alive though.

Couldn’t agree with you more. However, if you think that there should be no limits on the amount of a resource that you can take and keep then yes, you do need someone telling you what to do because you don’t have enough common sense to realize the impact of your actions. Common sense ain’t so common anymore.

DNR seems to be pretty well funded in Georgetown, I’ve been checked that last two times out of there this year. Checked twice in MI last year as well. They must not like my black boat.

no I don’t need anyone telling me what to do. Especially people who can’t see beyond their own bow. I guess I must have more common sense than some of these morons. As stated before, nothing I keep goes to waste, and I have kept these species INSTEAD of fish that actually have recreational pressure.

Guess you like Obamacare too… got to have the gov. involved to know what’s “right”

You take those fish out of sustainable numbers, then you hurt the gamefish populations too. Laws aren’t made for the individual, maybe you utilize your catch but how many don’t? It’s not a law made for everyone except Toddn, it’s a law made to protect the resource for everyone. IE: you aren’t the only one out there taking those fish. Look beyond your own personal feelings as a whole.

Wouldn’t know a thing about Obamacare, I pay for a private policy every month in order to stay out of the goobermint clutches.

I do support those local politicians who are fighting to put in sensible management to protect our resources. If they don’t do it, the SAFMC and others will step in and close the entire thing down. Where will you be when that happens? Who will you blame then? Would it be your and people of like thought’s fault?

Get over it, in the long run they have done you a big favor.
