basically it is damp rid beads or something, and when they get full of water you plug it in. It gets hot and drives off the moisture from the beads, then you are good to go again for a couple weeks.

I have one of those too, quit useing it. Seems to need to be recharged too often. I go into my safe on a regular basis, so it didn’t work for me. It may work well for someone who rarely enters their safe and it is located in a fairly low humidity area. The Golden Rod plugs into the wall and warms up enough to keep the moisture out of your safe. You never have to recharge and they are fairly inexpensive. The only downside to a golden rod is that you have to have a small hole in the safe to pass the cord through, which most fire proof safes do not have.

I keep a sock full of rice in mine. Seems to work pretty well.
