I guess posting good reports only is all the rage but here goes a bad one.
Fished the SCSSA summer oceanic with Fish-N-Kid and Bellyup, very smooth ride out lines in at 8am on the ledge. Extremely slow, it was to calm to fish IMO found some scattered boards and picked up a few peanuts and lost a mid teen dolphin. Decided to push out and went by a sporty trolling on a nice sized bait pod, found a smaller one and made one circle but didn’t want to stay near the sporty in case he was fishing the Gov. cup. Pushed in to 250ft and had what I thought was the day maker Wahoo but it turned out to be a Blue Marlin got a few jumps out of him and we started to clear lines. A few minutes went by and he was gone the 80lb leader broke at the barrel swivel or the crimp failed, not really sure. The fish hit a locally made sea witch style lure behind a bird.
If I can take anything away from this is I think I need to re-crimp all of my lures at least once every season. This lure was rigged last year; we did land a 40+lb Wahoo on it last time out.
It was nice to meet you Bellyup you are welcome on my boat anytime.
Covered 165 miles and burned 64 gallons on my F225.
BTW thanks for the heads up Carla Dee we started seeing scattered lumber in 120’ on the way out.
