Made the run to the TL Friday with the rest of the fleet. Found that same rip in 500’ and it was game on. Ended up with 32 fish. Biggest bull went 54lbs, according to Tubbys scale, and we had 4 in the mid 30s. Called it a day and the steering started acting up 72 miles from the sea bouy!!! We all took turns turing to the left and made it in all with stronger shoulders than before.
Really nice Bulls/fish! What was wrong with the steering?
Not Sure, it constantly wants to turn to the right! We replaced the helm, and it worked fine all day until the ride in. Autopilot can not fight the turn either. I guess it is either the autopilot pump or the cylinder on the engine. Any thoughts? My mechanic and electronics guys are puzzled.
See if you have a bent or loose skeg. That will cause what you described. All the struggle at your helm might have made your baits go from side to side - looking better!
