day after christmas

Hey folks here are a few pics of my son and I the day after christmas
It was a lil windy at first and we got out there a lil later than i planned but it was a good father son day. Gotta teach um young and i must add he is a hell of a deckhand for a five year old. We were in the Port Royal sound fishing with sum mud minnows we had trapped the previous nite. Enjoy the pics! Fish on!

The fish in the first pic sure looks bigger than 24" BUT I am sure I MUST be wrong.

Thought somebody might question that but it was 22. the one i’m holding on the boat was 26 it went back in the water…

Thanks for looking out for me Marshgrass. i’m new to the area but not fhishing regulations. as matter a fact DNR was at the dock when we headed in due to a rescue for sum guy that beached a boat he rented from the marine corps air station on a sand bar. they didnt take a look at my ice chest but i showed them my catch anyhow. Your Navy corpsman friend.

Nice fish and glad to see you out there with your son. I too fished with my son on Monday. Only difference is that my son is 36 and we didn’t catch a single fish…not even a strike. We fished out of Isle of Palms in places that usually produce but no luck. Used MM and all sorts of plastic. On the bottom, under floats and in-between. Fished flats 3 hours before low until after low tide. Too windy to see any fish schooling.

yea i agree it was windy, we fished the outgoing tide until it got low enough i had no choice but to move. as far the rest of the day between the wind and the fast moving water it was dead. But a bad day of fishing is better than a great day at work… thanks for replying OldRedMan. Fish on!

Wouldn’t be a fishing report without someone questioning their report as usual.

Nice fish and glad you d a good day on the h20

Yeah it did seem like someone was sort of trying to rain on our parade a lil… watever its all good. And yes that wind did have a bit of a bite behind it. i asked joey if he still wanted to go when we got to the ramp… he looked at me and said yes like i was crazy… LOL! first fish he netted for me and he had already forgotten about the cold weather. makes me proud really… I’m trying to get out there with him as much as possible. I am a fleet marine force corpsman in the navy ( a medic for the marines) headed over to Afghan in march for my second combat tour. so time is precious with my family. my wife is active duty is well. anyways thanks for the replies guys. FISH ON!!

chrisl,

Thanks for the report. I like the second picture with your son the best, as that’s what it’s all about.

Of equal importance, thank you sincerely for your service to our country. It’s guys like you that allow the rest of us to go fishing in the first place.

Your exactly on target Blackbart. taking the boy fishing is way its all about. wats the fun in fishing by urself anyways, And also thank you for your support friend… My wife is also a navy corpsman, her and joey will be holding it down on the home front while I’m gone… she can handle that boat with her eyes closed too. thanks for ur reply Sir. FIsh On!!!

Well done Chris. You have a pic with you and your son on a boat and, fish or no fish, that’s a good day. Nice report. Looks like those saphire shines are still working.

I was thinking the same thing as marshgrass about the size of your fish but nice catch-should save that one for a tournament! The size limit for reds is 23", does that mean anything UP TO but not AT 24" is legal? because I always took it to mean the fish had to be either 23" on the dot or under. For the record I rarely keep but one red and if it’s close I let him go anyways because the fine ain’t worth it especially with the ‘tail pinch’ and all. Great report. Don’t know who’s more stoked you or the boy

Now that’s a Merry Christmas! Good job!

Who’s kissing the ring, Dilly Dally?

And Wino, 23" max pinched. 23 non-pinched will get you IN a pinch with DNR!

My daughter won our last club tourney with one that I pinched, poked prodded and squeezed to make sure it was within slot. We do a $50 fine at the club if a fish measures over slot, and I don’t know (or want to find out) what the DNR fine is. DNR stopped us, I held my breath, and they said it was about as close to perfect as you could get. WHEW! LOL!

Vinman-thanx for the input. That’s what I have always gone by anyways but didn’t understand the 24" comment by marshgrass (no disrespect to you either marshgrass but I had to ask). ANYWAYS I think the 50$ fine is a great idea and could probably be increased considering the importance of the redfishery to our community. Regardless, chirsl-great post and see ya out there when the wind dies down. New years Eve day looks like good conditions 'cept for the tide which is the exact opposite of what I like…
